Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni: “The team is always more than just the names”

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has spoken about the team, the 1-0 win against Uruguay, Thiago Almada and the match against Brazil.

Lionel Scaloni spoke at a press conference after the team’s 1-0 win against Uruguay. Here is what he had to say:

“On the right side they created some situations for us, in the second half we corrected and we played a different game. I was satisfied, not because I won, but because of the way the team performed.

“The team played a complete game, absorbed the pressure from the crowd. When we had to play, we did it and when we had to score, we did it too.”

Scaloni also commented on the team itself:

“The National Team is a team. When one is missing, the other comes in. We had some very important absentees but we have great players to go out on the field.

“The team is always more than just the names. Fortunately, we can put players in and the team doesn’t suffer.”

Regarding the goal scorer, Thiago Almada:

“Thiago scored a beautiful goal, he is growing a lot and is playing what the team wants. That is the most important thing.

“We would have liked Thiago not to have had to run backwards, but we had to close the gaps.”

In regards to the match against Brazil on Tuesday:

“We have to endure whatever comes and know how to take advantage of the moments. This team knew how to take advantage of it.

“De Paul is going to arrive so he can play against Brazil.”
