Thiago Almada left out of Atletico Madrid team due to muscular discomfort

Thiago Almada has been left out of the Atletico Madrid team due to muscular discomfort.

Almada is not going to play in Atletico Madrid’s last league match against Villarreal. The 25 year old did not train with the team but did work in the gymnasium.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has until May 30 to announce his team for the World Cup.

  1. Buendia currently is way better than Lo Celso and it’s not even close. Buendia is more energetic, a more effective dribbler and his passing is as good right now or even better than Lo Celso. Lo Celso is slow, he crawls on the pitch, he can barely press any opposition midfield and defensive backline. Also, Buendia will be way more effective against the European teams unlike Lo Celso. Lo Celso does not deserve to be selected, he hasn’t done anything in a long time both for Real Betis and Argentina. Selecting Lo Celso based on vibes is just madness to begin with. A player with only 4 goals from 65 appearances shouldn’t be making the 2026 World Cup especially given this player is always injured and his long past his peak (which even during this period he was underwhelming at best). Hopefully Emi Martinez can lobby for Buendia to be on the final roster. It would be such a let down for a player to work so hard during a world cup year only to lose out to a player solely on vibes and past connections with several team mates. If Lo Celso wasn’t injured leading up to the 2022 World Cup we wouldn’t have gotten Enzo Fernandez. Argentina won the World Cup without Lo Celso last time, no case can be made for a player who spent most of the club season on the bench or either on the side lines due to injuries.

Scaloni is going to need a lot of first aid kits if the rumored players mention are anything to go by. It’s like taking semi retired players for the sake of it when some players shouldn’t be there. Is Argentina going to defend the World Cup, or is this a farewell tour? It seems more and more like the latter.

The heat during this summer world cup is going to be around 90-100 degrees, this is no fun to play in especially during a two month span. Given that there are a lot of players on the team with recurring injuries this should be very concerning.

A hot climate significantly increases the likelihood of professional athletes suffering both heat-related illness and muscular injuries. The combination of high ambient temperatures, humidity, and intense physical exertion creates a cascade of physiological and biomechanical changes to the body.

Given the injury history of players like Lisandro Martinez, Acuna, Montiel, Nico Gonzalez, Cuti Romero, Lautaro Martinez, Julian Alvarez (recently), Almada (recently), Palacios and Lo Celso Argentina might end up in the second round of the 2026 World Cup with a 3rd of its roster nursing injuries. I mean, is the team doctors going to sugar coat over some of these questionable decisions by going along with the script?

  2. Tottenham fans bashing Romero for going back to Argentina to recover ahead of a World Cup after getting injured while playing for their club is ridiculous. There is nothing wrong watching a local match, it is no different than going out with friends when visiting home. The entitlement is insane. He should’ve left that club last season .
