Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni tests back three in training

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni tested a back line of three in training.

Lionel Scaloni tried a three man back line on Saturday. According to Maximiliano Grillo, Scaloni played a back three and not a back four in training on Saturday. Scaloni will be without Nicolás Tagliafico as he is not fully fit. Here is the rumored line-up:

Emiliano Martínez; Lisandro Martínez, Otamendi, Romero; Nicolás González, Mac Allister, Enzo, De Paul, Simeone; Lautaro Martínez, Messi

  1. That is smart move..Gonzalez and Simeone easily create pressure opportunities left and right side and also help own defence..it is the best ideas for us right now…..

    Scalonis line up like…

    ———————EMI————————
    —-Romero—Otmendi—-Lisandro –
    Simeone———————-Gonzalez
    —————-MacAlister——————
    -—Depaul———————-ENZo—-
    —————-Mess-———-—————
    —————— lautaro -——————

  2. I am not sure if 3 back is a great idea. Algeria would bring in strong wing plays. Algeria has traditionally relied on technically gifted wingers and wide attackers, making wing play one of the defining features of its attacking football. If we do not put strong full backs to counter that, there can be trouble for us. We would also need tall players in the defence and offence. Netherlands capitalized on Japan’s height, irrespective of what the final result was. So Senesi, Lopez can be key. Simeone would be a disaster against the physical football of Algeria.

    • back for last 20–30-minute idea not first 70 minutes. first match always tough for Argentina rather than germany.

      • yeah bro dont think nico and guiliano both will play in 3-5-2
4-4-2 will be the formation maybe

  3. I called this exact lineup three or four articles back. I also said Paredes return would be vital for our rb and lb issues we are having this mundial and would make it more feasible to run three on the back line.
And yes I’m “tooting my own horn” as the oppressors say 😂
Anyways boys- getting ready for the travel to this game!!!!!!! Don’t worry I still plan on getting smoky with the asado as the reigning parrillero champ before I head to the stadium.
No pressure, no worries, we are world champions.

  4. Asia has risen sharply in this World Cup, with South Korea 🇰🇷, Australia🇦🇺, and Japan 🇯🇵delivering disciplined, tactically mature performances that have exceeded all expectations. In stark contrast, South America has stumbled badly—Brazil🇧🇷 drew with Morocco🇲🇦, Paraguay 🇵🇾was thrashed by the USA🇺🇸, and Ecuador🇪🇨 fell to Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 , leaving the continent without a single win so far. This puts immense pressure on Argentina🇦🇷, the reigning champions, to not only beat Algeria 🇩🇿but to make a definitive statement that South American football still possesses the elite quality and tactical intelligence to compete for the world title.

      • No Easy Games, Especially Against “Underdogs”: The old days of a 5-0 walkover against an Asian or African team are over. These teams are tactically disciplined, well-coached, and have immense self-belief . They don’t fear the big names anymore. Argentina cannot take Jordan lightly at all. Jordan will watch these results and believe they can get a result.

  5. This is a very strange World Cup for Argentina. If Argentina comes 3rd in the group, they will play winners of B,D or G. All are much easier compared to if they win or come runner up in the group.

    • G is definitely not easy. Our record against Belgium. And any team that tops B and D would do so by virtue of good football making their round of 32 opponent worried. And being 3rd in the group of Algeria, Austria and Jordan would mean, we no longer have it in us.

  6. Just a drama free simple wins. Get a 2-0 win.

I am traveling to Dallas for the Austria game. Hope we win that too and wrap up the group stage

  7. I haven’t felt the butterflies yet but the second the Albiceleste lines up and their national anthem is played……… almost instantly all the previous Copas and WCs flash in my mind.

    • Guaranteed! No matter what this has allways been the case watching Albiceleste! Vamos Argentina!

    • Exactly my thoughts, brudder.

Like many here, I’m calm, collected, assured (as a current world champion should be).

But once the first whistle for our first match blows, once the ball starts rolling, those many painful memories of the failed finals, the first match and the roller coasters at last edition, will all come flooding back. Butterflies in the stomach stuff. But this is what it means to support the Albiceleste.

Mixed thoughts about the team selected – mostly familiar faces (who have been stars in their own right) so it’s good for team dynamics. but it also means people may refer to last edition to see how we played and reacted and plan accordingly. Will have to see how our team evolves and whether it is agile and flexible.

      Vamos Argentina!

    • Don’t think Barco can play wingback anymore. He hasn’t played that since he left Argentina.
