Facundo Medina to start for Argentina vs. Austria

Facundo Medina will start for Argentina against Austria.

Medina is going to be in the starting line-up with Nicolás Tagliafico not starting. According to Gastón Edul, Medina will start for the second consecutive match for Argentina.

Nicolás Tagliafico did not play against Algeria in Argentina’s 3-0 win but might be available for the match against Austria.

  1. This is hurting. We needed Tagliafico in this difficult match. Austria has got solid wing plays with speed and accuracy.

  2. If Cape verde beats KSA in the next game , then we will face them in the next round . In my opinion, its better than facing uruguay.

    • It doesn’t matter the name much. Will all depends on the team shape.

But i also feel Verde will be easier than Uruguay. Uruguay is Uruguay no matter what, especially against Argentina

  3. Not surprised after the first match performance i think he is very decent in speed also
If i rate the players based on the speed in current squad it will be
    1)molina
    2)barco
    3)nico gonzales

Correct me if i am wrong here

  4. It will be interesting to see what tactical changes Scaloni and staff have made after watching and analysing Austria’s games from the past years. They surely have noticed that Austria presses high on the pitch and have strong players in Laimer (Bayern Munich) and Sabitzer (Borussia Dortmund). That high pressing means spaces will open up for defence splitting passes by Messi, Enzo or DePaul. However, high pressing also brings dangers. We like to pass around the ball at the back from left to right and vice versa. An interception due to a sloppy pass or lack of concentration could quickly lead to a goal. So hopefully, everybody is very focused and doesn’t lose the ball in our own half.

Scaloni will have to choose between a fast player on the wing to use the spaces that will open up (Gonzalez) or a more defensive type to help midfield keep possession (Barco).

Fingers crossed. A win means first place in the group and maybe a game against the blue sharks (Cape Verde) in the next round.
