Lionel Messi scores a hat trick for Argentina in 3-0 win vs. Algeria at World Cup

Lionel Messi scored a hat trick for Argentina in their 3-0 win against Algeria at the World Cup.

Messi had three goals for the first time at a World Cup in the team’s 3-0 win. With the score at 0-0, Lautaro Martínez would play the ball through to Lionel Messi and he would score but the referee ruled it out for offside. Moments later, Algeria would score but that would also be disallowed.

Rodrigo De Paul would receive the ball in his own half and play a pass to Messi. He would run and score from outside of the penalty area to give Argentina the 1-0 lead.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni would substitute Nahuel Molina for Gonzalo Montiel at half time.

Algeria would see more of the ball at the restart but did not have an effort on goal.

Lionel Scaloni would substitute Julián Álvarez and Nicolás González in for Lautaro Martínez and Thiago Almada.

Minutes later, Emiliano Martínez would cross it to Nicolás González and he would pass it to Alexis Mac Allister. His effort on goal was saved but Lionel Messi would get to the rebound and score his second goal of the match.

With the Argentina national team leading 2-0, Messi would receive the ball on the outside of the penalty area and he would score his third goal of the match to give Argentina the 3-0 lead.

Scaloni would substitute Lionel Messi and Nicolás Otamendi out for Nico Paz and Cristian Romero.

Argentina will play Austria on June 22 in Dallas, Texas.

  1. Messi!! Messi!!Messi!!
It could have been 4 goals actually, Messi and Argentina were denied a penalty.
So happy to see our side play. But Argetina was only playing in 2nd or 3rd gear and was nowhere close to top gear.
Also, the link up between Messi and De Paul is so good!!

  2. Felt after first goal, Messi said to De Paul, Almada and Enzo …. I told you we should try striking from distance.

  3. Needless to say about the goat. We have all seen it but I am here to praise about a certain Rodrigo De Paul. What a performance mate. Take a bow! Also Mccalister and Enzo was brilliant again.

  4. Good start, Goat has hattrick, substitute players got Good minutes. De Paul & Alexis Maclester was exceptional in midfield.

  5. Good match… a bit tight at times … but a good match overall. Good rotation changes by Scaloni… he is a good brain on his shoulders.
Awesome to see a goat hattrick at the World Cup… this will make commentators talk for hours and send some shivers down the spine of some opponents.
All doubts on RDP should shut down… if nothing, going to Miami, he has improved his coordination with Messi and overall chance creation.

  6. Good start. Just need to focus on one game at a time. It is such a pleasure to watch Messi play and score. Just want to relish every moment he is playing.

  7. Hattrick for the boss.. overall clinical game.. not a single good save required from Emi. 5 subs were used and in the next cpl of matches the others will be used and hopefully will be fully in sync by the knock out stage.

    • I am Worried about RB.
Molina is ok. Showing good level.
But Montiel is not at all confident as feared.
