Paredes, Tagliafico and Álvarez could be in the starting eleven for Argentina in their match against Egypt. According to ESPN Argentina, the three players have big chances of starting the match on Tuesday.
Nicolás Tagliafico could start the match in place of Facundo Medina while Leandro Paredes cluld start in place of Thiago Almada. Julián Álvarez could replace Lautaro Martínez in the team.

I honestly don’t get why Lautaro Martinez is called ‘El Toro.’ Watching him in these last few Argentina games, I was specifically paying attention to how he holds up the ball against defenders. Every single time, he just gets shrugged off the ball and ends up on the ground. The guy’s nickname literally makes no sense based on how he actually plays.
Can Barco play as RB, he is a LB right,so he can play as an inverted RB. Isnt it? Argentina always struggle to have solid RB or even LB why is it like that? Zanetti is the only world class RB which comes to my mind in recent years. He missed 2 WCs during his carreer which is shocking considering he was one of the best we had in that position.

This is the lineup that many of us wanted to start this tournament with. Paredes was coming off an injury in his last match with boca which might have eliminated the idea, but if we are going with the old players in a tried and true manner then this is the way:

Capeverde could end up being our Saudi arabia of this World cup. It exposed almost all of our weaknesses, slow tempo, constant loss of possession, lack of urgency, and virtually no threat down the left wing. From the rumored xi, it looks like Scaloni is trying to address every one of those issues by bringing in Paredes, Julian, and Tagliafico for Lautaro, Almada, and Medina, three of our most underwhelming performers so far.
Julian isn’t a traditional No9 or poacher. His off the ball movement, link up plays, ability to deliver the final ball, willingness to drift wide and his long range shots makes him a much more complete attacking option. Tagliafico may be getting older, but he’s still miles ahead of Medina in both attack and defense. Medina is primarily a CB, and I don’t think much more needs to be said about Almada. ( Sorry Almada fanboys disguised as Scaloni supporters )
As for Paredes, while he isn’t a traditional defensive mid like Masch or Caicedo, he can sit deeper, dictate play and help out CBs along with Depaul who should be focused on the right side more, both back and front. That should allow Enzo to play the role he’s quite comfortable in, the more advanced attacking role he plays at Chelsea rather than spending most of his time as a deeper No8. Enzo finished last season with 15 goals and 7 assists, and that’s the version of him Argentina should be trying to maximize and bring out!
Macallister didn’t have his best season for Liverpool largely because Arne Slot used him in a deeper central midfield role. We all know he’s more than capable of playing higher up the pitch. He’s an intelligent midfielder, makes excellent late runs into the box, and is a very good finisher.
With four midfielders, it looks like Scaloni wants Argentina to dominate possession, and I think that’s the right approach. Our biggest strength is the midfield, and the more of the ball we have, the more control and chances we should create. Molina and Tagliafico are also more than capable of providing width and supporting both flanks.
Another thing that standsout is the absence of two natural conventional wingers. When we’re already struggling with constantly giving the ball away, playing two wingers only increases the risk of losing possession. Maybe that’s why Scaloni doesn’t want to start Nico.G or Simeone. It feels like he wants to play it safe, keep control of the game, and most importantly not concede the first goal.
As for the subs, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Locelso, Barco, Paz, Lautaro, and Nico. My only hope is that Scaloni doesn’t fall into the same mindset he once had with Dybala that Messi and Dybala couldn’t play together. If Paz continues to earn minutes, hopefully Scaloni is willing to trust both him and Messi on the pitch at the same time. Argentina will play the quarterfinal on 11th June, 3 days after the R16 and that means Messi can’t be forced play another 120mins, we have to win against Egypt within the 90mins!
I never liked the idea of Paredes starting a mach as DM in 3 man mid. Yes in 4 man midfield. But you are cutting a creative player with a defensive player? Putting just Messi and Alvarez upfront? Without any wing play? It will be easy to defend…it will be easy gor the opponent..to block us from scoring..!
I would go with Nico as third forward or as 4th midfielder…!

You have a point. But u missing the fact that paredes is also creative and is great passer and is brave. For his last euro clubs he was one of the free kick takers and corner kicker, and for boca he is the main creative player out of his midfield defensive duties

Brazil has no creative mid who can create chances. They struggled a lot to keep possession as their mid was horrible. Mac Alister as LM will be fine. Barco lo celso and paz should be used as sub .
I think this may work, even though there are no wingers but fielding 4 midfielders may just work for, If Paredes plays as the defensive midfielder, that may give Enzo, Macalister & RDP more freedom. Means they can contribute more in attack. Alvarez starting also will bring an urgency to us in the get go from starting whistle.
When we had Di Maria, we used to make fun of the guy saying he was a headless chicken, now we could wish he was there in this team, Isn’t it? We don’t put in crosses from both Wings any more. Means if we don’t have great wingers who can put on crosses to the middle(Which May not work that much nowadays unless u have a really tall defenders like Haaland or Kane) Then its better to play through the Midfield.
Nico Paz, Simeone, and Barco HAS to play in this game whether they’re starting or not. If we eventually get through to the next round, we need to have a solid 11 already, and there’s no way you can expect to see drastic changes being experimented in the latter stages with opponents like Colombia, England, Spain or France.
Enzo-Macca-RDP midfield trio CANNOT happen again, one of them must, must, must be replaced, one way or another. There was no defensive solidarity nor attacking creativity on display against Cabo Verde. Sideway passing to the death. According to the rumour, it’s Paredes coming into the DM and hopefully his deep-lying playmaking ability can shift something, allowing the other 2 to advance further forward.

RB position is essentially dead. Molina has no contribution both attack and defence, simply passing sideways, and Montiel is Montiel. Sad to see both of them cause they’re supposed to still be at their prime age. The only possible choices we have is the makeshift of Palacios-Simeone like we saw against Jordan.
Only Messi and our CB duo Licha and Cuti are performing at their very best here. 3 men alone can’t retain the title in a 11v11 sports.

Qf potential with Colombia will be toughest match before expected Sf versus England. Argentina need to gear up and I hope from R/16 onwards this team will perform better and if needed will grind results. Messi @ 39 competing with Kane, Mbappe & Halaand is itself evident he is definitely GOAT.
One more thing Coach as well as Messi pointed out issues after CV match mean Coaching staff & Captain are aware and will sort out this issue. It’s better to start slow, disjointed although yet grind result and improve as tournament goes deep

There is a big lesson to be learned from this round — even teams that had decent campaigns and looked competitive have been shown the exit door. Canada, Mexico, and even our arch-rivals are reminders that even small lapses in performances mean big once knockout football begins.
That is why our last match worries me so much. The performance was far from convincing — a questionable starting XI, an unusually restless Scaloni on the touchline, and substitutions that came late and didn’t really address the problems on the pitch.
Maybe Scaloni saw things we couldn’t, and he has earned enough trust over the years. But from the outside, it felt like we escaped rather than controlled the game.
The knockout stage is brutal. It does not give time to rediscover rhythm or correct repeated mistakes. Seeing strong teams fall despite playing reasonably well, and then looking back at how vulnerable we looked, is enough to make me lose some sleep.
The talent is there. The experience is there. Now we need the clarity, intensity, and decisiveness that made this team champions.

We can’t concentrate and be concerned about the refs, we just had to get the job done ourselves. Look at England today vs Mexico. I have to admit most of the decisions were against them, on top of that playing at the legendary Azteca where the whole stadium was constantly booing the crap out of them, also playing 10 v 11 in the 2nd half. They maximized every chance they have on their 2 quick goals. We need to be like this as well, KILL THE GAME as soon as possible and make the most out of every opportunity we have. I’ve previously said, it’s better to play intensely in 90min, than to drag everything down to 120min. Against Cabo Verde we were to slow and lacking urgency every time after we scored once. Hope that changes against Egypt.

A few thoughts from today’s games…
• Brazil bows out. Happy that Neymar got a farewell World Cup goal. And the hype around Endrick again felt short. He is talented but that miss from such a great position was a bad one.
• Haaland’s brace takes him level with Messi and Mbappé on 7 goals. Vini is out of the race. Of course, the GOAT is yet to play his fifth match. 😉
• Felt for Mexico. I actually thought they were the better side for large parts of the game. Pickford made some outstanding saves. Jude has an uncanny habit of turning up in the biggest moments, and he did it twice today. He will be suspended for the next match. But if England get past Norway, they’ll have him back with fresh legs — which is not a very good news.
As for us, let’s see how things unfold. As expected Scaloni and his staff to make a few tweaks against Egypt. They’ve shown time and again that they aren’t afraid to adapt, and that’s one of their biggest strengths.

So 4 midfielders? Since Almada provides absolutely no width, I don’t think it’s a bad idea. It’s better to add one more midfielder for more control and defensive stability than to keep hoping Almada does something on the wing when nothing really happens.
We don’t have the forwards to play 4-3-3. Even if you play Nico Gonzalez as a forward, he will basically act like a wingback. However, we do have a bunch of midfielders and I imagine that’s how Scaloni will set it up.
I am not too worried about how many midfielders or forwards we play with. The main issue is what we want to do with our players. Do we press high and want to create chances from the middle? Or do we wait and try to hit Egypt in transitions?
If Paredes starts then I imagine we want to play thru the middle and want to play. Also, if Paredes plays, hopefully Maca doesn’t play. He is fucking up the entire team’s shape on his own.
