“Egypt is a very good team. On top of having world class players, Egypt has a coach who has been working for a long time and they have a clear playing style. They have made things difficult for all of their opponents.
“The idea is to avoid those transitions that Cabo Verde had, where they arrived and hurt us. We are a team that defends from the ball and it’s a bit about that.
“Salah is a great player. It’ll be a pleasure to face him. We have always taken precautions from a collective standpoint.
“We had several talks with the players. We spoke yesterday about Egypt. We discussed how to face this opponent. This is a different rival and we know we can’t lose our essence. We emphasized what we believe we need to have for the team to be the one we know.”

Very well said. Egypt is an opponent we rarely face, which makes this clash even more intriguing. Before this 2026 encounter, the only senior-level meeting between the two nations was the international friendly in Cairo on March 26, 2008, where Argentina won 2–0.
But history will have absolutely no influence once the whistle blows. Different generation, different players, different stakes.
