Miroslav Klose comments on Lionel Messi overtaking his World Cup goals record

Miroslav Klose has commented on Lionel Messi overtaking his World Cup goals record.

Klose had scored 16 goals in 24 World Cup matches, a record before Lionel Messi reached 17 World Cup goals. The German stated that he had a phone call with Lionel Messi after the Argentine had broken his goal record. According to SC ESPN, Here is what he had to say:

“Lionel Scaloni was my team mate at Lazio in Rome. We are always in contact.

“He organized a call between Messi and myself, it was very emotional. Of course we had crossed paths when on the pitch, it was always pleasant and respectful.

“But that phone call was the first time we had talked at such length outside of those encounters. He told me he would send me an autographed jersey.”

  1. Messi had a hand in the 3rd goal. The moment Julian nicks the ball from Salah, he looks up to see Messi directing him to go to the right wing and Julian duly complies. Note how Enzo puts his head down and runs as fast as he could and Lautaro pauses to wait for Enzo to get in position. Amazing goal.

  2. If we are honest, beating Switzerland would be the most the current version of this team is capable of achieving. Semi-finals after winning a previous World Cup is not a bad result. I just hope we beat the Swiss. After that we are coming up against much stronger opponents that have a variety of ways of hurting us.

I am not saying winning again is impossible, but it would require so many things to improve at the same time, that it seems unlikely. Our defense must become solid again, Cuti and Licha are world class defenders, but the RB situation is not helping them and when our midfield is wide open and vulnerable to quick transitions, they can’t always bail us out. Our CFs are working hard, but not scoring. Messi alone can’t solve it all the time. He needs help.

I feel like the coaching staff needs to gamble a bit and use young and fresh legs in Simeone, Barco and Paz, or even Lopez, but they want to play it safe, I get that, but our midfielders seems a bit jaded, lack pace, especially De Paul. If we could at least use Palacios, maybe he can improve us a bit.

We also miss a wildcard player like Di Maria, someone other than Messi who is quick and can beat his man one v one and run with pace. Nico Gonzalez, Barco and Simeone are the closest thing to that, hope we can find a way to use them at least.

Again, I am not saying we can’t win it all, but it would require us to improve in all areas of the pitch. We sometime rise to the occasion when facing world class opponents, that might be one of the paradoxes of Argentina struggling against the likes of Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde, Egypt and then beating giants.

  3. 2014 WC final Neuer, Germany’s GK hit Higuian INSIDE THE Box Before hitting the ball and the ITALIAN REF. Who everybody and his mama were crying about leading up to the game since more than 68% of all Argentines are of ITALIAN descent called NO FOUL
Did the Albiceleste protest, cry or whine?? NO they accepted the unfortunate loss and moved on.
    Cry all you want

  4. I’m tempering my expectations because Argentina has allowed five goals in five games. If you look at the teams that have won the World Cup in years past, they usually only allow only 1-2 goals across seven games. I’m hoping Scaloni, Ayala, and Samuel can work some magic to improve things in the defensive end.

  5. To all our beloved ALBICELESTE members and fans all over the world…….cheer up, don’t let lies and blatant conspiracy theories cloud your passion and love for them.

Relax, take it easy and enjoy the next game and GOD WILLING they’ll be more and let the dogs bark all they want because it won’t change a damn thing.
There will be more security and protection in all the coming games and all Messi and company needs to do is play their game
