4. Would Scaloni give Simeone another start? It may not be a bad idea. For the first time in this knockout phase, he’d be up against a full-back closer to his own physical profile in Marc Cucurella—although the gap in technical quality is significant. Even so, Simeone’s relentless pressing could be valuable.

   Cucurella was outstanding against France, constantly providing width and an outlet on the left. If Simeone can pin him back or force him into a more defensive role, Argentina would remove one of Spain’s major attacking outlets. That, in turn, would ease the burden on Molina or Montiel, allowing Argentina’s right-back to play a more natural game instead of constantly worrying about overlapping runs.

   Simeone (press Cucurella relentlessly), Paredes (disrupt Rodri), Mac Allister (link midfield to attack), Enzo (double up with Tagliafico on Lamine Yamal while driving Argentina forward)

   The key, for me, is not simply stopping Yamal or Rodri individually. It’s disrupting Spain’s left-sided rhythm through Cucurella. If Argentina wins that battle, the entire defensive shape becomes more manageable. Rodri is the player around whom Spain build their possession. He sits in front of the defence, rarely loses the ball, switches play, and prevents counterattacks. Against Spain, Paredes’ primary battle is likely to be with Rodri.

5. We are underdogs for a reason, we are essentially playing a machine, and the Barcelona team. Their defense is out of this world, their possession rate and how they quickly retrieve possession when they lose it is exceptional.

   However, the things that give me optimism that cannot be measured are passion, grit, heart, and the ultimate clutchness and super weapon – MESSI – and that the team will die for him and give it all they have.. this can’t be assessed with analytics.

   Another thing that will give us the edge is our South American butchness and bringing grit and chaos to the game. Spain doesn’t have this and it throws their game off. Their manager was recently interviewed and he said the same thing, it’s the only strategy he’s concerned about his players being thrown off. If you rewatch the Uruguay game, they played them really hard and gave Spain plenty of problems – yes they lost but that was because of Uruguays goalie who couldn’t stop an easy chip in on goal. This can go either way… we lose big time and they exploit our flawed defense .. or we make this a war and edge out a win.

   Key players that will make this a chaotic game is starting Simeone again, I’d like Montiel in because he showed out last game.. keep Molina out. Bring DePaul in the second half along with L Martinez.. Otamendi was great for us as well. And I think we should start Nico Gonzales.

   • Agreed. I look to Belgium game for reference. Belgium hold them for quite longer without their best inform midfielder plus no sharpness in front. Compared that we have better midfielder and defence and don’t talk about our sharpnesses as everyone knows. I still feel we did not hit the prime yet in this tournament and hopefully it’s Sunday they peak . I’m just worried about keeping the ball and getting it as Spain team is very good at it.    • Agreed. I did not see that game, but looking at the stats and highlights, you are right. Spain had only one shot on target vs Uruguay, and that was the mistake goal. Scaloni knows best, he will analyze this for sure

6. There is so much to settle hopefully. Although we don’t have any rivalry or anything against Spain but Spanish media said so much crap about us through this World Cup specifically that guy called Maldini or something . I don’t know what will be the tactics and all,since it will be hot so we can’t run around too much I guess . All of you can come up with some scenarios for fun debate! As far my thoughts I believe that Spain doesn’t score much so I still believe our defence needs to click and can keep them in bay for scoring. Secondly half time break is probably 30 minutes which we already experienced in last Copa final might work in our favour. As far for team it would be nice to start with extra midfield to out numbered Spain midfield but I feel like Nico might start for helping Tagla. Also won’t be surprised if Molina start again as Montiel might be needed for closing the game. Keeping ball out of them will be the game and if we keep them in bay somehow till first half then we have game In hand. As many said i would rather play Spain then France given our weaknesses in transition or that kinda individual players. Let’s hope for glory guys

8. playing paredes, macllister, enzo all three gives defensive strength in the middle but it comes up with some cost too bcs all are kinda slow, here creates little bit less traveling space for messi in the attack, i like to see nico paz in this final game, one of this three subs or starter, paz is good at everything, he can tackle, he can create, he can shot, if he is a starter then i want him in place of enzo, and if he is a subs i want him subs of maccalister, i don’t want all this three is rotate with depaul, i would like to depaul as a subs if only if argentina has a lead to defend in final 10 to 15 minutes

    • I am here in New Jersey. Yes there is a lot of smoke from a forest fire in Canada. Everything looks reddish outside and smells like a cedar sauna. Not ideal for training. However rains tonight into tomorrow will hopefully take it away.

    • I live 3 miles from the Stadium, yesterday the air quality was awful. Today, Friday, it is much better. I live so close to the stadium, can practically see it from my house and was not able to afford to go to final. It’s ok I will cheer from home.

        • That’s an insane price. In 1994 I paid $425 dollars for 4 games and one quater final. I got to see Argentina vs Nigeria, sadly Diego’s last game. I then paid $150 for semi final. Can you imagine what that would cost today?
