Argentina national team lose 1-0 vs. Spain in World Cup final

Losing is never good but losing in this fashion is embarrassing. I can’t say the tactic we’re wrong because those weren’t out tactics. Argentina is not known for our defensive players, we’re known for our attacking players. So seeing Messi, Alvarez play negative futbol was hard to watch. Lautaro not getting in was also disappointing. Spain is a great team and deserved winners. They were superior today, and we’ll see if they are that superior in the following years. In those same years we need to show it was a bad day not a bad team.

Who ever becomes the next head coach I hope he makes an example out of Enzo. We need to start leaving players no matter how talented they are but can’t contain their emotions out of the national team. I’m not just talking about after the game, but during. Enzo, Paredes, even Cuti and others all very talented but also very prone to huge game deciding mistakes. What Enzo did was unnecessary and low IQ. The little chance of reaching penalties was gone. We all knew it. Plus his off the pitch baggage, today should be his last game for Argentina. If you can’t control your emotions in the game, win or lose you won’t ever wear the shirt. That alone should be enough to change a few attitudes in future players. What happened at the end didn’t surprise me, thanks to a few players we had that reputation. Only two of the 26 were involved, the coaches were peacemakers so it doesn’t come from the team culture. The way pundits talk about it make it sound like the whole team, coaching staff and fans were beating up the Spaniards. But until we learn how to play, win, and lose like Argentine gentlemen that narrative will follow us. We don’t have to cross the line every single time. We’re better people than that.

So sad day

I never thought I would see Argentina win the world cup, but I did. Thank you to Messi, Scaloni and the team.

To tell you the truth I didn’t have expectations before the world cup but the conspiracy theories and dirty campaign against the team and messi made me want to win by all costs.

Losing is part of the game but, not even our enemies could have imagined the shameful performance we showed out there. That was the most shameful game ever for the world and all the haters to see. We lost exactly as they wanted by playing so bad so shameful and by nagging and showing reckless behaviour.

Nothing to be proud off, what a disappointment.

Well, to those who praise and defend this coach blatantly congratulations! Surely we thank him for all those thropies!
Since KO stages this team barely control the game, but they said those last 10-15 minutes comeback and attack was mastermind. LOL
If not for Messi geared up his magic and some divine intervention this team wouldn’t get passed Cabo and Egypt.
Lets be honest how many of us can mention just 3 players from Cabo, Egypt or Swiss before WC but hey those unfamiliar names gave us troubles ofcourse with tactical brain from their coach.

As for 2022 they heavily dependence on Messi it was acceptable but 2026 he is 39 yo and still they put everything on his shoulder.
I dont know if Messi contributes to players selection
since scaloni knows how to make him comfortable and listen to him (which is this coach strong points compare to his predecessors)

Lets just wish argentina will not return to dark era like after 1990. When the general gone all those stars around him bring their own egos especially when guided by those stubborn coaches

Our control in tight spaces needs to improve. Spanish players were so calm today even with press and were present for their teammates when attacking. For us? Every counter attack was Julian or Messi completely alone. And as a result they ended up losing the ball or passing it back.

First of all, we need to rebuild this team. We need quality players in every position, especially at full-back and on the wings.

The difference between Di María and Nico González is huge. To compete at the highest level, Argentina need at least two or three world-class wingers. In reality, we went through the entire tournament without a proper natural winger.

It’s hard to believe that a team with Lionel Messi had to play such negative football. To me, that simply shows we lack enough attacking talent. In a 4-3-3 system, quality wingers are essential, and right now we don’t have them.

Nico González has been part of the Argentina squad for the last six or seven years, yet he still hasn’t become a player the team can consistently rely on. Rebuilding the attack should be the top priority.

I’m so proud of this team and the coaching staffs. They gave us 2 World Cup finals, 1 World Cup, 2 Copa Americas, and 1 Finalissima. But today they played their worst football and it happened to be a WC final. That happens. You ride the wave long enough, eventually it breaks. We were lucky many times in this tournament, and luck, like all things, runs out.

It’s easy to point at the coach. But they tried everything – early subs, formation changes, desperate pivots. Sometimes it’s just not your day.

And Messi. There’s a particular melancholy in watching greatness take its final bow on a bad day. We all wished his farewell would be more ceremonial. But probably he achieved everything that he never needed that.

He gave us everything. More, and longer than we had any right to expect. We were alive at the same time as him. We watched him play. That’s enough. That will always be enough.

We won 2022 world cup . We reached the final in 2026 as well. Even we had so many weakness this time . We didnt have any quality full backs , no tall defender , Paz wasnt 100% fit so we had only Leo as playmaker . Still he played all the games full .
Reaching the final with these weakness is another big achievement.

The more I keep thinking about it, the more it hurts. It wasn’t the fairy tale ending that I hoped Messi would get.
But when I think about it, it could have still been a lot worse. In the last few years, we won the world cup, copa america, finalissima. And at the very least we lost in the finals, and to a comparatively less annoying team than many others. With that little bit of consolation, I will stop thinking about today.

Never gets old, same Ole nonsense around here, accept the loss by ONE lousy goal that could have been a complete embarrassment had it not been for Dibu and MOVE ON.
Messi will retire from the NT and enjoy his retirement fully.

As a last match the most important match Messi could do less walking!! Starting De Paul was a mistake!!

One can delusionally believe that Messi can still play at the WC at 43 years old as a super sub, but the question is will Argentina still be able to compete? Was this their last chance for them to realistically win the 4th star for a while? This teams needs a massive revamp and needs to desperately produce fullbacks and worldclass wingers.

Paredes and Enzo..what they are doing…silly cards…they killed any chance of comeback…

Spain win was inevitable and should have been wrapped up in 90 minutes. The big question should be what should be the way forward. Get rid of old players and group of friends. Scaloni must axe likes of DePaul, Paredes, Otamedi, Nico Gonzalez, Molina and Macalister. DePaul has been the most annoying. The fact he had fewer passes and touches than Messi is shocking

We would have won if we had a decent coach. Scaloni is disgrace. We will have to wait for another 50 years to win the World Cup.

I wonder if there is any hope that Messi will stay till the next world cup.

All our best plays came when we tried to be attacking – be it Cabo Verde, Egypt , Switzerland or England. Today was poor strategy making.
I am telling you, we could have won it with more attack mindedness. We even conceded less when we were more attack minded. I think this Spain team was beatable if we played with more planning, positivity and energy. Also, Di Maria’s absense was again a factor. And that unfair red card also cost us.
Also, some young players weren’t even tried.

If we could create two goal scoring chances in the last 10 minutes with one man down, then tell me how we couldn’t create a single chance with one extra player for the rest of the game?

Argentina can’t play their usual game without at least six players in the opponent’s half. We’ve seen that throughout the tournament. The overly pragmatic approach made us look far worse than we actually were. Just look at the last 10 minutes, when we finally looked like we could create something, because we actually pushed more players forward.

The tactics were horrible, and Scaloni was never this pragmatic before this World Cup. I don’t know what changed him.

Messi carried this team on his shoulders throughout the tournament. Too often, the midfield failed to control games or create enough chances.

Nothing came out of Mac Allister and Enzo Fernández, neither consistently dictated the tempo or unlocked defenses. Enzo is often described as a deep-lying playmaker, yet it’s hard to remember the last time he regularly produced defense-splitting passes for Argentina or at club level.

Looking ahead, I’m worried about Argentina’s future. Messi’s retirement will leave an enormous void, and I don’t see enough young players ready to replace what this generation has provided. I’m not convinced that Claudio Echeverri and Franco Mastantuono are ready to carry the national team.

We’re second best – silver medalists. The better team won today, no denying that. But let’s be real: with an aging, injury-hit squad, finishing second is nothing to be ashamed of. And honestly, why are fans of teams that got knocked out earlier still complaining? At least we stuck by our team through every high and low…we didn’t jump ship and cheer for someone else just to see our rivals lose. Meanwhile, rival supporters are the biggest cry babies – if their team wins, it’s ‘fair play,’ but if they lose, suddenly it’s ‘rigged.’ What a double standard.

The new generation will take shape now, and that’s something to be excited about. Hold your heads high…this isn’t the end, it’s a new beginning.

If it was not Argentina, I was rooting for Spain to win the tournament. They play beautiful football. Just wish the result was more balanced. Felt like Argentina had no real plan at all even with 11 men.

I must say, Spain played the better football throughout the tournament. They are truly deserving champions. Congratulations to them.

Does it hurt to lose a final? Yes, but at least it is not to France, England, Brazil or Portugal. Making it to the final with a 39 year old Messi is a huge achievement. No matter what, this Scaloneta era team is the stuff of legends, and beating England in the way we did, was almost as good as winning back to back. Beating England was our final. I am only sad to see Messi era end, but that would have happened anyway, even if we won.
