Emiliano Martínez commented on Argentina’s World Cup final loss and if it is time for him to step aside.
Martínez made a record 11 saves in the World Cup final, the most saves ever in a World Cup final. The Argentine posted on his Instagram about the match. Here is what he had to say:
“I dreamt that we won it back, I dreamt of bringing it to Argentina and making history once again.
“The truth is that the pain is difficult to explain, it remains to reflect on many things and see how it moves forward and if it’s time to take a step aside.
“I’m so sorry, I really tried my best to help my country and my team mates.”

We had far more reason to clash with those German bastards in 2014 than with this Spanish side.
In the 57th minute, Neuer nearly took Higuaín’s head off with that reckless challenge outside the box, yet no foul was given. Earlier, around the 33rd minute, Benedikt Höwedes also put in a nasty tackle on Pablo Zabaleta.
And let’s not forget the Brazilian crowd. Still bitter after their 7-1 humiliation, majority of them were openly backing Germany, giving them an extra psychological boost throughout the final.
That loss against Germany was far worse than what happened against Spain. We deserved to win that day because we created better and clearer chances than the Germans, who themselves were in prime form. And we had a prime Messi as well.
At least against Spain, we can say that we didn’t play well at all and were undeserving of the result.
For me personally, the most devastating World Cup campaign I have ever experienced was 2002. Nothing comes close to that disaster-class performance from such a world-class squad. It still haunts me.
Now, goalkeepers usually tend to improve with age. This is one position where we may not need an urgent overhaul. Dibu can certainly carry on if he is mentally prepared. He is only 33, which is not old for a goalkeeper. He should also pass on his penalty-saving expertise to the younger goalkeepers.
And is it just me, or did anyone else who watched the match feel the same way? Apart from the goal, did Spain really create any jaw-dropping chances? I can think of maybe two opportunities at best, and even those were not particularly clear-cut. Most of the saves Dibu made were routine saves that any top goalkeeper would be expected to make.
The point is that Spain dominated possession, even reaching 90%, but even when we were 10 men they weren’t truly creating clear-cut scoring chances. that doesn’t matter now anyway but still saying.
Nestor Lorenzo has contract with Colombia despite their early exit. But he is ready to step down.
Tapia likes Pochettino, but wage demands are too high.
Ghallardo apparently not interested right now.
If Scaloni leaves (I think he will, he looks exhausted) i think it will be better if someone who has similar philosophy be our coach, Apart from Aimar, Placente looks a viable option, he has coached u19 so obviously he can bring youngsters much easily. For gods sake not Pochettino or Simeone. Gallardo is some one who is an astute coach. He will be a good option.
