Nicolás Otamendi commented on the Argentina national team’s World Cup final loss.
Otamendi did not start for the Argentina national team in the World Cup final but was substituted into the match. The 38 year old posted the following on his Instagram:
“It wasn’t the final that we had dreamt about. And the truth is that it hurts a lot.
“Because behind the 50 days were sacrifices, hugs, tears, excitement and a group that left absolutely everything for this shirt.
“But if there is something I will always keep with me, it’s the pride of having shared this road with a group of extraordinary people, that never stopped believing, that fought until the last second and that defended these colors with their hearts.
“Thank you to my team mates for every battle. And for never giving up.
“To my family… Thank you for always holding me. In every joy and in every hit. You are my safe place when football has made me the most emotional and also the biggest sadness.
“And thank you to the entire Argentine public. Thank you for believing, for accompanying us and for making us feel your support in every corner of the world.
“Today, we have to come back with a broken heart but with the calmness of having left everything. Because finals are won or lost but there are shirts that defend for life.
“And this one, we defended until the last breath. Always Argentina.”
