Racing Club received difficult news this week as Argentine forward Valentín Carboni suffered a serious knee injury that will keep him out for an extended period. The 20-year-old attacker, currently on loan from Inter, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Friday’s training session and will undergo surgery in the coming days.
The club confirmed the diagnosis shortly after medical tests were completed. According to Racing’s official statement, Carboni suffered a complete ACL tear along with a partial injury to the external collateral ligament in his right knee. The injury requires surgical intervention and a long rehabilitation process.
Carboni had recently joined Racing on loan during the latest transfer window, arriving with high expectations after his development in Europe. However, his time in Avellaneda was limited, as he made only five appearances for the club before the injury. He started the first three matches of the season against Gimnasia, Rosario Central, and Tigre, but later lost his place in the starting lineup, coming off the bench against Argentinos Juniors and Banfield and remaining unused in matches against Boca Juniors and Independiente Rivadavia.
This is not the first serious injury of his young career. In 2024, shortly after winning the Copa América with Argentina, Carboni suffered a similar ACL injury in his left knee while playing for Olympique Marseille.
Racing now faces the possibility of signing a replacement player due to the long-term absence, while discussions remain open about where Carboni will complete his recovery, either in Argentina or back in Italy under Inter’s medical supervision.
