Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni held training on Monday and Lionel Messi was part of the starting eleven.
Lionel Scaloni stated at a press conference that Lionel Messi will play against Iceland and Messi was included in the training. According to Diario Olé, this was the starting eleven in training:
Rulli; Montiel, Romero, Otamendi, Nicolás González; De Paul, Mac Allister, Enzo; Messi, Lautaro Martínez and Almada

I’m excited boys. Got my stock of beef and wood lined up. Asado Portinos Primo!!!!
I’m interested in seeing this setup with nico g on the left flank as lb. I’m assuming that Almada will be tracking on that area as well? Also I feel more comforting molina on the right usually than montiel.
🙂 I have been reading your messages for years and your charm of barbecue/steak on match days ….. Good going ….. am really excited too. I feel we will do quite well overall.
Salam! Good to see you Imran!
Walekum Salam. Thank you so much.

I am happy to hear that many players are back to fitness. For me I don’t care about the results against Iceland. I want to see everyone come out healthy. Friendlies don’t count for much except for the team coordination and checking the new players. Personally I prefer that Molina and Montiel should not both go. Capaldo and Giay have had more competitive playing time than Montiel. Paredes couldn’t finish a match for Boca is also a risk. I think Palacios showed that he can do well given more playing time plus he is a also well experienced. Eagarly looking forward to the game. I hope to see Capaldo at RB, Flaco Lopez & Barco. I mean Scaloni & Co need to find out level of the reserve players.
If all players are fit and available, Argentina’s starting lineup at the World Cup should be Emi Martínez, Molina, Romero, Lisandro Martínez or Otamendi, Tagliafico, Enzo Fernández, Mac Allister, De Paul, Paz, Messi, and Álvarez.
Against teams that play more direct football—especially most European sides, given their greater average height—Medina can be used at left-back.
Lautaro Martínez, Giuliano Simeone, and Almada can also be valuable options off the bench and used as substitutes in any match.
I want 4-0 against Iceland for 2018 group stage memory.
Haha yeahh
That can be our line up for our first 5 games.. give or take a player or two and Dibu of course.
Algeria, Austria, jordan, Uruguay, Egypt …
Portugal, England and Spain may be different.
Yeah only Dibu for Rulli and Not sure about Nico as left back.. I prefer Tag who is a proper LB. Also if Messi is playing, I prefer Alvarez as he will also do a lot of running
