Lionel Messi scored two goals from outside of the penalty area for FC Barcelona in their 5-1 win vs. Alaves.

Messi was as dangerous as he has ever been as he scored twice and had one goal disallowed. With Barcelona leading 1-0, Messi scored to make it 2-0 but the goal was disallowed for offside. However, Messi was sure to get a goal.

The Argentine would receive the ball from outside of the penalty area and his shot would hit the post and in to give Barcelona the 2-0 lead. A thunderous shot by the captain which curls around the defenders and beats the goalkeeper.

He was not done just yet. Once more he would receive the ball from outside of the penalty area, he’s run towards the center and lift off his shot which would go into the top corner of the goal to make it 4-1 for Barcelona.

Hernan Crespo signs two year deal, becomes new Sao Paulo manager

Hernan Crespo has signed a two year deal with Sao Paulo as he comes their new coach.

Crespo has been linked with Sao Paulo for a few weeks and as we reported a few days ago, an announcement was expected to be made this week. The club confirmed through their Twitter page that the Argentine has signed with them to become the new coach.

The Argentine won the Copa Sudamericana, his first managerial trophy, last month with Defensa y Justicia before stepping down as coach. Still only 45 years of age, this is Crespo’s fourth managerial job. He has coached Modena in Italy, Banfield in Argentina, Defensa y Justicia also in Argentina and now Sao Paulo.

Hernan Crespo has left Justicia y Defensa and is set to join Sao Paulo.

Crespo, who won the Copa Sudamericana with Justicia last month has left the club and according to reports in Brazil has “a verbal agreement” with Sao Paulo where he will become their new coach. The Argentine has been linked with different teams, as he confirmed himself. Speaking with Sportia, here’s what Crespo had to say:

“I have spoken with Santos, with Sao Paulo and with the Chilean team, but I did not decide anything at all. I have nothing, I did not sign with anyone, but it seems to me that when the phone rings constantly it is not fair that they take away even one per cent of the focus from what I had at Defense.

“I did not sign with anyone or change Defense for another situation. It seemed right to evaluate and release Defense because it was not healthy either for the leaders or for the players.”

Still only 45 year old, he has coached Modena in Italy before managing Banfield in Argentina. It was with Defensa y Justicia where he would win his first managerial trophy.

Matias Palacios set to join FC Basel in Switzerland

Matias Palacios is set to join FC Basel from San Lorenzo.

Palacios, an Argentina U20 player, will reportedly join the Swiss club. Per a report by Leandro Alves of ESPN, FC Basel and San Lorenzo have agreed on a $6.3 million fee for 50% of his rights. The only thing missing is the player to agree.

Still only 18 years of age, midfielder has represented Argentina at youth level.

Lucas Ocampos to miss World Cup qualifiers for Argentina

Lucas Ocampos is set to miss March’s World Cup qualifiers for Argentina following his injury while playing for Sevilla.

Ocampos had to be substituted off for Alejandro Papu Gomez following a dangerous tackle. Tests done confirmed that he has an ankle injury which will rule him out for 4-6 weeks.

Argentina play two World Cup qualifying matches next month. The first on March 25 in Argentina vs. Uruguay while the second on March 30 vs. Brazil.
