Lisandro LOPEZ has joined Italian club Inter.

Benfica’s towering centreback has joined Serie A giants Inter, following a medical on Monday. Inter have signed the Argentinian on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy.

Current reports state that Benfica will receive about €500,000 for the loan deal with Inter having an option to buy him for €9 million at the end of the season. Speaking with Inter’s official website, here’s what Lisandro had to say:

Lisandro LOPEZ speaks about Inter move:

“To play for a club such as Inter who are one of the biggest in Europe is a dream which means a lot for me. I’ve come here to give a hand to the team, to help it reach its objectives. There have been a lot of Argentines at Inter. Among others, SAMUEL, ZANETTI and MILITO come to mind and they’re all players who’ve made history. I hope to do well too. I used to follow Serie A and it’s one of the best leagues in the world for me. It’s very tactical, very competitive and I’ll look to give my all and learn day by day.”

LOPEZ joins fellow Argentine and club captain Mauro ICARDI.

It was a list of big names who scored in Europe this weekend as Lionel MESSI, Angel DI MARIA, Manuel LANZINI and Eduardo SALVIO all found the back of the net.

Beginning in England, Manuel LANZINI continues to impress for his side, this time scoring twice for West Ham United in their 4-1 win against Huddersfield. LANZINI’s name has been in the press the past few days as a possible replacement for Barcelona’s COUTINHO, who left Liverpool earlier in the transfer market.

Moving to Portugal, Eduardo SALVIO scored in Benfica’s 3-1 win against Braga. It was an Argentine connection on the goal as Franco CERVI provided the assist.

Next to the border in Spain, it was a Lionel MESSI goal and a Lionel MESSI record. The little guy scored a marvelous free kick past Geronimo RULLI in Barcelona’s 4-2 win against Real Sociedad. The win takes them nine points clear of Diego SIMEONE’s Atletico Madrid and ensures that they are the only unbeaten team in Europe’s top five leagues (after Manchester City lost 4-3 to Liverpool).

MESSI’s goal was his 366th league goal, edging him past the German Gerd MULLER’s record of strikes in a European top five league.

Right across to France, Angel DI MARIA scored the lone goal in PSG’s 1-0 win against FC Nantes.

Lautaro MARTINEZ could be called-up for the friendly matches in March.

With Claudio TAPIA confirming that the Argentina National Team would be playing two friendly matches against Italy and Spain in March, rumors have already surfaced about who might receive a call-up.

Racing Club’s Lautaro MARTINEZ is the name being mentioned in the press. With the first match confirmed to take place in Switzerland, the second match against Spain will be played at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid (Atletic’s stadium).

This would be MARTINEZ’s first call-up to the senior team having represented his country at the U20 FIFA World Cup last year. MARTINEZ has been linked with a move to Europe but a few days ago he announced to the press that he would be staying at Racing for a little longer:

Lautaro MARTINEZ on his future at Racing:

“I’ll stay here until June, after that, we’ll see.”

Both Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are interested in signing him.

Arsenal and Liverpool are both reportedly interested in signing Argentinian players.

Alejandro GOMEZ and youngster Cristian PAVON are the two names being mentioned in the press to a possible move to England. According to a report, Alejandro GOMEZ is being linked to a move to Liverpool.

With COUTINHO joining FC Barcelona a few days ago, the English club receive a fair amount for the Brazilian and some of that money could be spent on getting the Atalanta man. Now at 29, GOMEZ would apparently be interested in the move to England should an offer be presented.

The other name being mentioned is that of Cristian PAVON. The Boca Juniors man is already an Argentine international, having recently made his debut under coach Jorge SAMPAOLI. Arsenal are the team interested in signing PAVON, with a report stating that should the London club sell Alexis SANCHEZ to Manchester City, they would make a $37 million bid to Boca for the Argentine international.

AFA president Cladio TAPIA confirmed Argentina’s friendly matches for the month of March.

Lots of talk had been going around the past few months as to which teams Argentina would be playing come March. Spain, Italy, Morocco and even Serbia were possible opponents being thrown around in the media. However, on Monday, AFA president Claudio TAPIA confirmed that Jorge SAMPAOLI’s men would be playing against both Spain and Italy in March.

AFA President Claudio TAPIA:

“In March, we will play two friendly matches against two very prestigious teams. There was one which was already signed with Italy and due to contractual obligations we must respect, otherwise it would be an economic loss for the AFA. It’s for that reason that we will play them on the 23rd of that month (March, which would be in Basel, Switzerland). The second match is against Spain on the 27th. They are two very important national teams and will help us prepare. Spain qualified for the World Cup and we know what they represent in football.

“The early preparation for the World Cup will be fundamental. The first phase will be in Argentina because we know that once the tournaments (leagues) are over, the players will travel to see their families and then they will stay in Ezeiza until May 30. We will play a farewell friendly match that day and then we will go to Barcelona where we have everything agreed with the head of the club to stay there.”

TAPIA also mentioned that on June 8 there will be another match prior to travelling to Russia for the World Cup. This would mean that Argentina would play two matches in March. The first against Italy on March 23rd and the second on March 27th against Spain. This would be followed by a friendly match on May 30 and another on June 8 before the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
