Diego MARADONA talks about the Argentina team, Lionel MESSI, AFA

70

Argentina and football legend Diego MARADONA took to the media to discuss the Argentina national team, Lionel MESSI and the loss against Venezuela.

MARADONA had less than pleasant words when describing the team and the AFA. Here’s what he had to say:

“I am very Argentine and I feel like I am part of a different group of coaches and players. I know that RUGGERI, BATISTA, GIUSTI, PUMPIDO, CANIGGIA are thinking… That this team doesn’t deserve the shirt. The one’s I named you had the shirt tattoo’d, we have it tattoo’d.”

Talking about Lionel MESSI, MARADONA defended the Argentina captain:

“MESSI has to ignore the critics. It’s not his fault. He’s in a bad, disorganized team… a team that always depends on him, in every way. He’s an amazing and extraordinary player, he’s got nothing to prove to anyone.”

In regards to AFA president Claudio TAPIA, Diego MARADONA had some harsh words:

“I don’t know what TAPIA will be, if he will be a math teacher or what but he has no f*cking idea.

“Those that are inept who are running the AFA thought that they would win against Venezuela? Venezuela are a proper team and Argentina came into this through the window, not the front door because they betrayed and constantly lie to people. I’m sorry but Argentina are not going to win a game.

“I’m sorry for the Argentine public who continue to believe these liars. I’m sorry for the players who have to show their faces when they shouldn’t have to. It should be the leaders who start doing things right. Don’t give away the prestige that we once gave you.”

Lautaro MARTINEZ goal not enough as Argentina lose 3-1 against Venezuela

A match which saw Lionel MESSI return to the Argentina team saw Venezuela score three goals against them in a 3-1 loss.

An experimenting team out by SCALONI but a deserved victory for Venezuela. They took an early 1-0 lead about six minutes into the match. A lovely ball sent in saw RONDON score. Minutes before half time, Venezuela would double their lead through a MURILLO goal.

In the second half, Lionel MESSI would get the ball and off a counter attack would pass it to SUAREZ, who would play a ball across to Lautaro MARTINEZ and he would score to make it 2-1 and bring Argentina back in it.

However, just minutes after that, a foul by Juan FOYTH would present Venezuela with a penalty and MARTINEZ would score to make it 3-1 for Venezuela.

Argentina will play Morocco on Tuesday.

Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI: “MESSI and DYBALA are compatible but it takes work”

Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI spoke at a press conference about the Argentina team, Lionel MESSI, Paulo DYBALA and much more.

Many people are wondering why Lionel MESSI and Paulo DYBALA will both not feature from the start and the Argentina coach gave his reason. At the press conference, here’s what he had to say:

“It brings us joy to have MESSI back, despite my youth. I had the possibility to train with him. We hope that with MESSI coming back, it brings out more of the potential in the team.

“We will not change what we have done in the past 6 matches. Him being here is an added plus. MESSI is at an important moment in the season where you feel the fatigue and it’s obvious. Not only with him but with a lot of players and you have to take that into consideration.

“MESSI and DYBALA are compatible but but it takes work. Surely with time it will happen. Now, we don’t consider it to be the moment, it’s logical, we haven,t had much time to prepare.”

SCALONI also spoke about himself as a coach:

“I am countiously learning, listening. I did that as a player and I’m also going to do that as a coach.”

In regards to the injuries to Nicolas OTAMENDI and Angel DI MARIA, SCALONI said it’s best not to risk.

“It’s never good when a player gets injured, as much for the coach as for the team. I would have liked to have seen DI MARIA. When a player leaves the camp, it’s because there’s no chance of him playing a match. We always decide never to risk a player.”

About the match against Venezuela:

“We enter the game wanting to take the initiative. We have a good midfield. We also have wingers that can cause damage. The important thing is to be protagonists.

“We analyzed the Venezuelan team. It’s a team that’s on the rise, that plays direct football.”

About the list for the Copa America:

“Hopefully when I have to give the list for the Copa America, every player will be available. We are a great team if all contribute even just a grain of sand.”
