Lionel MESSI masterclass for Barcelona, AGUERO and more score

A Lionel MESSI masterclass was on show for the world to see on Sunday while Jonathan CALLERI and Franco VAZQUEZ also netted in La Liga with Sergio AGUERO and Ever BANEGA finding the back of the net.

Like fine wine, Lionel MESSI appears to be getting better with age. Two goals and one assist for the little magician in Barcelona’s 5-0 win against Real Betis. However, it wasn’t the goals which got Real Betis fans to clap for MESSI but it was the dribbles. The second half was a pulga highlight reel. The one’s you would find on Youtube. Dribbles around the Real Betis players which would were worth the price of admission for the match alone. The win for the Catalan club extends their lead at the top of the table ahead of Diego SIMEONE’s Atletico Madrid by 11 points.

There were two more Argentinians who scored in Spain on the weekend. Beginning with Jonathan CALLERI, the former Boca Juniors and West Ham man scored for Las Palmas in a 2-1 win against Valencia. CALLERI’s goal came from the spot which ended up being the winning goal.

Still in La Liga, Franco VAZQUEZ scored for Sevilla (who had an Argentinian score for them on Tuesday) in their 3-0 demolition of Espanyol.

Shifting over to Tuesday, Ever BANEGA had a stellar performance in the Copa del Rey against Atletico Madrid. The Sevilla man scored a penalty for the home team in their 3-1 win (5-2 aggregate) against Atletico.

Moving over to England and the League Cup, Sergio AGUERO scored the goal that took Manchester City to Wembley as City picked up a 3-2 win (5-3 aggregate) against Bristol City. This is AGUERO’s fourth goal of the week after having scored three goals on the weekend.

Nicolas TAGLIAFICO named Man of the Match in Ajax debut

19

It didn’t take Nicolas TAGLIAFICO long to make a name for himself at Ajax.

The former Independiente skipper made his debut for Ajax in the biggest match of the season, in De Klassieker between Ajax and Feyenoord. An assist with a stellar performance to boot was enough to be named the Man of the Match.

With the number 31 shirt on his back, TAGLIFICO assisted the first goal on Donny VAN DE BEEK’s finish. The €4M man received a pass from Justin KLUIVERT and the Argentinian sent in a a low pass from the left for the goal.

He was substituted with minutes left in the match to a standing ovation by the home fans who saw their team pick up the 2-0 win.

Ajax fans give TAGLIAFICO a standing ovation

As we reported earlier in the week, Argentina National Team coach Jorge SAMPAOLI met with TAGLIAFICO despite the meeting not being in his original plans. Should Nicolas keep up these types of performances, he could easily find himself in the Argentina squad.

Sergio AGUERO hattrick, Lucas ALARIO double for Leverkusen

A Sergio AGUERO hattrick and a Lucas ALARIO double is what we have for you on Saturday!

Manchester City were looking to rebound from their first league loss of the season following their 4-3 defeat to Liverpool last week. They bounced back in fashion in a 3-1 win against Newcastle United with Sergio AGUERO scoring all three goals for Pep GUARDIOLA’s men.

The first goal came from the feintest of touches off his head to make it 1-0 for the Citizens. AGUERO double his tally in the second half with a well placed penalty kick. Newcastle scored shortly after and then came Sergio AGUERO who found the back of the net for the third time that match.

AGUERO’s hattrick was the first perfect Premier League hattrick since he himself scored one against Newcastle back in October 2015. The perfect hattrick consists of a goal scored with the head (which was the first goal), a goal with his right foot (the penalty) and a goal with his left foot (the third goal).

Kun reached 200 Premier League matches for Manchester City in the game against Newcastle, placing him in 4th place all time among Argentinians in the English Premier League.

Shifting from England to Germany, AGUERO wasn’t the only Argentinian to score more than one goal on Saturday as former River Plate man Lucas ALARIO had a double himself. Leverkusen were away to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

With the score 2-0 in favor of Leverkusen, Lucas ALARIO scored the third and fourth goal in Bayer’s 4-1 win against Hoffenheim. The win takes the into second place in the Bundesliga.

It’ll be interesting to see if Lucas ALARIO (who has been considered by Argentina National Team coach Jorge SAMPAOLI in the past) will make the upcoming Argentina squad for the matches in March.

The Argentinian midfielder’s agent is presently in Milan (per Olivier TALLARON of Canal+) as talks of him leaving Ligue 1 club PSG intensify. Now 28 years old, PASTORE will be trying to book a ticket to the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Argentina after having been included in the 2010 squad by Diego MARADONA but missed out on 2014 when Alejandro SABELLA’s men made the final of the tournament.

Since joining PSG, the midfielder has amassed over 250 caps for the club winning 15 trophies, four of them being league titles.

Angel DI MARIA: “Argentina is always one of the favorites”

26

Argentina’s Angel DI MARIA gave an interview with SC.QA and spoke about a few topics.

While on a recent winter training camp in Doha, Qatar, the Argentinian spoke with www.sc.qa about the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the 2018 FIFA World Cup and Lionel MESSI. Regarding the 2022 World Cup which will be held in Qatar, the PSG man had this to say:

“It will be a very important World Cup. The stadiums are very impressive and I know the tournament will be a big boost for the Arab world. I have been to Doha a few times, and every time, I have been received very well, both on a personal level and with the team.”

Regarding Qatar’s plans to have a “compact” World Cup with less travelling, DI MARIA, now a veteran of two World Cup’s, gave his thoughts on it:

“I have played in World Cups in countries which are very big and having to take long journeys is difficult and complicated for the team. It is very important to have a compact World Cup, as it will be a lot more comfortable for the players.”

Argentina’s already tasted glory in Qatar, having won the 1995 U20 World Cup with coach Jose PEKERMAN and Juan Pablo SORIN on the team.

“I hope we can repeat the success of 1995. We have the World Cup coming up this year, which we can aim to win, and if we win in Russia, hopefully we can win in Qatar as well.”

Regarding the 2018 FIFA World Cup:

“Argentina is always one of the favourites, first of all because we have Lionel MESSI. There are other teams playing at a high level, like Spain and France, but Argentina is among the best. We have to keep working hard to remain at the top level. World Cup tournaments are always different to the qualifying rounds. If you don’t win, you go home, and that makes the games very special.”

DI MARIA also praised Lionel MESSI, calling him the best player in history.

“MESSI is already the greatest. Winning the World Cup would validate him, but he is already the best. Hopefully, football will give Messi this World Cup – it would be good for everyone. MESSI has achieved everything in his career – the only thing missing is a World Cup. Obviously, as an Argentine and a team-mate of his, I would love for it to happen in Russia.”
