Gabriel BATISTUTA: “We have to copy National Teams”

52

Argentina legend Gabriel BATISTUTA spoke about the Albiceleste’s current situation as well as Gonzalo HIGUAIN and Jorge SAMPAOLI.

The former Fiorentina striker was speaking on Radio La Red where he expressed his concerns and gave his thoughts on everything going on. Here’s what he had to say:

Gabriel BATISTUTA on his concerns:

“We have to copy the National Teams that are doing things well. It would be a lack of respect not to listen to TAPIA (AFA president). I would have to talk and express all of my concerns.

Gabriel BATISTUTA on Gonzako HIGUAIN:

“I believe they treated him very badly. He failed in moments where everyone was hoping he wouldn’t fail but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to play. Furthermore, he’s a world class forward. Who goes to Russia? None of the three (HIGUAIN, ICARDI and BENEDETTO) deserve to be left out of the list.

Gabriel BATISTUTA on Jorge SAMPAOLI:

“We still haven’t seen SAMPAOLI apply his style. Hopefully what SAMPAOLI has is more than what we have seen so far. It was difficult for him to work in this situation because it was a delicate moment (when he took over and during the World Cup Qualifiers) but he was given two very easy matches at home (against Venezuela and Peru) where people were only expecting victories and that put a lot of pressure on him.”

Spain, Italy, Ukraine, rumored for Argentina friendlies

Several countries are in the running for the Argentina friendly match next month as well as in March, including Spain and Italy.

Argentina are confirmed to play Russia next month on November 11 in Moscow. According to several reports, the match against Russia is part of a contractual deal with Adidas (where Argentina would receive €400,000 per match) and the match was originally supposed to take place back in August 2013. However, the match was cancelled and held off as Russia were already set to play Ireland.

As for November’s friendly matches, there were rumors of Spain, France, Ukraine, Georgia and Poland. However, it appears as though all three of Spain, France and Poland already have their two opponents each for next month which would take them out of the running. That would leave Ukraine (who play Slovakia on Novemver 10) and have no second match yet or Georgia. The situation with those two countries are that they are paying very little for the match.

The other information is that in March there would be two friendly matches and apparently the AFA are in talks with the Spanish FA and Italian FA for those two games.

But the problem remains that the Albiceleste still do not have an opponent for the November 14 fixture.

Claudio TAPIA: “Argentina’s leaving as world champions”

1

AFA president Claudio  TAPIA was on Susana Gimenez’s television program on TyC Sports on Sunday where he talked about the Argentina National Team.

TAPIA was seen backstage hugging Lionel MESSI following Argentina’s 3-1 victory against Ecuador. The president was full of praise for his country’s captain. Speaking about the World Cup, MESSI and Argentina, here’s what he had to say:

Claudio TAPIA on MESSI and the World Cup:

“Buy all the tickets because Argentina’s leaving as world champions. MESSI shows to be one thing but he’s totally different. He’s very supportive, he greeted everyone. He’s a great person.”

Claudio TAPIA on Argentina:

“I heard a lot of people saying that it was necessary for us to miss the World Cup to hit rock bottom. But that’s wrong, you can’t think like that. Not going to a World Cup is not hitting rock bottom, it’s punishment. Today, we’re all dreaming of Russia.

“We have to back the coaching staff and support the players. We’re calm for having qualified for the World Cup and bringing in more money to the AFA.”

Dario BENEDETTO: “My dream is to play in the World Cup”

6

Argentina international and Boca Juniors star Dario BENEDETTO has stated his desire to play in the World Cup.

Boca’s man of the hour was speaking on TyC Sports and he was asked about whether he would play a Superclasico between Boca and River Plate or Argentina’s friendly match against Russia. Here’s what his answer was:

Dario BENEDETTO on Boca and Argentina

“Obviously the National Team is above everything. I don’t want to be misunderstood with what I’m saying. Playing a Boca vs. River, as a player, the most beautiful thing, it’s a match from another world. But obviously the Argentina National Team is above everything.”

About playing the World Cup

“I have to continue working here because there’s still a lot to go. I lived two beautiful weeks with the Argentina National Tean. My dream is to play in the World Cup.”
