Former Argentina coach Edgardo BAUZA comments on departure

5

Former Argentina National Team coach Edgardo BAUZA gave an interview to Rosario daily La Capital where he commented on his departure and the arrival of Jorge SAMPAOLI.

While BAUZA has no longer been the Argentina coach for a few weeks, the rumors circulating SAMPAOLI’s arrival to the Argentina National Team have been circulating in the media even while BAUZA was still at the helm. Here’s what BAUZA had to say:

Edgardo BAUZA’s comments:

“I was already out before this new administration came in. They already had their replacement in as well.”

“I am not bothered by the fact that SAMPAOLI is coming to replace me. What does amuse me is the fact that he is denying it. It doesn’t bother me (that he is the new Argentina coach). It actually amuses me that he denies it. In a recent press conference he denied it by saying that there is a a coach working when I already knew that he had been in contact with AFA execs and people close to them for months.”

Regarding comments made by former Chile National Team coach Claudio BORGHI about Jorge SAMPAOLI not having ethis:
“I don’t see it as logical or ethical, but ethics in football always loses. I am not going to say that I shouldn’t answer a call from an executive, because it has happened to me. I was called up once by a club, and I will not mention any names, and I told them that while there is a coach in charge I would not speak with them”.

BAUZA said that he contacted the coach and mentioned to him that they were looking to replace him.
“I don’t think it was a bad thing for SAMPAOLI to speak with them. What I don’t think was right is for SAMPAOLI to not make things clear. I just wish him the best.”

In the same interview, BAUZA spoke about the AFA and how they know nothing about football.

“They didn’t remove me earlier because we beat Chile (in the match prior to Bolivia). If not, I would have been thrown out before. When we started talking football, he (TAPIA) did not tell me anything because they have no idea about football. They are trade unionists. I do not say that to be disparaging, but it’s the truth.”

“Instead of telling me to go they wanted to wear me out with the rumours – obviously they did not know me. Once they realised that they were not going to get rid of me that way, they plucked up some courage and came and told me what they had done.”

AFA president TAPIA responded to BAUZA’s comments, here’s what he had to say:
“Good men say things in private. He had the opportunity to talk to me and he did not tell me anything.”

Regarding the players and Lionel MESSI:
“Before the match against Chile, I told the players that if we lose or draw, we would be out of the World Cup. MESSI never asked me to call anyone up.”

Javier MASCHERANO scores first ever Barcelona goal!

25

Hey everyone,

The day has finally come! It’s pretty hard to believe but MASCHERANO has scored his first ever goal for F.C Barcelona today! It was from the penalty spot, but surely enough it counts as a goal.

Speaking of MASCHERANO… Do you think he still deserves a spot on the national team? Should be play as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder? In my opinion, I think depending on the opponent MASCHERANO can play in both roles. He can be used as a flexible player who is able to come in off the bench to play in either position if necessary. What do you guys think?
As always,

VAMOS ARGENTINA!!!

Chiqui TAPIA on new Argentina coach: “SAMPAOLI? Could be him”

4

The AFA president has come out hinting at who could be the new coach of the Argentina National Team.

Since the vacancy of the Argentina coaching position after Edgardo BAUZA was let go, rumors have been circulating that current Sevilla coach Jorge SAMPAOLI would be the one to take the reins. While nothing has been announced, AFA president Chiqui TAPIA has hinted that the Copa America winning coach could be the one to coach the team.

In an interview with AS, TAPIA had this to say regarding the new Argentina coach:

“In the last few days of May we’ll announce the coach of the National Team. SAMPAOLI? Could be him.”

As we reported last week , Jorge SAMPAOLI is expected to be announced as the new coach on May 22, which falls into what TAPIA stated.

Goals from Paulo DYBALA, FERREYRA, DI MARIA, PIATTI and more in MLS

Paulo DYBALA, Facundo FERREYRA, Angel DI MARIA, Ignacio PIATTI, Hector VILLALBA and Yamil ASAD all found the back of the net for their clubs.

To add to the goals scored by Lionel MESSI, Mauro ICARDI and Sergio AGUERO, Paulo DYBALA added his name to the list of Argentinian strikers who scored on the weekend. DYBALA dribbled his way around a few players before playing a one-two with KHEDIRA and slotting it past the goalkeeper.

Facundo FERREYRA scored the lone goal of the match for Shakhtar in their 1-0 win against Dynamo. The former Argentina U20 player has scored 14 goals in 23 matches this season for his club.

Angel DI MARIA scored for PSG in their 2-0 win against Montpellier. DI MARIA’s goal came after Edinson CAVANI delivered a back heel pass to DI MARIA who curled in a shot from outside the area into the back of the net.

In the MLS, Ignacio PIATTI scored one of the goals of the week for the Montreal Impact as they drew 3-3 against Philadelphia. PIATTI dribbled around a few players before continuing his run inside the area and scoring.

Still in the MLS, Gerardo “Tata” MARTINO’s Atlanta United picked up a 3-1 win against Real Salt Lake. Hector VILLALBA and Yamil ASAD both scored for MARTINO in the win.

Lionel MESSI stars in El Clasico for Barcelona against Real Madrid

Lionel MESSI scored a historic brace for FC Barcelona, Mauro ICARDI scored a hattrick for Inter and Sergio AGUERO scored the only goal for Manchester City in their matches.

Lionel MESSI scored Barcelona career goals number 499 and 500 in Barcelona’s 3-2 El Clasico win against Real Madrid. The Santiago Bernabeu was left stunned after Lionel MESSI’s game winning goal in the 92nd minute. MESSI’s goal was his 22nd in El Clasico, which makes him the all-time leading goalscorer in the fixture, taking him ahead of the legendary Alfredo DI STEFANO. The little magician had arguably his best match of the season, scoring twice while rubbing salt in the wounds of the Madrid faithful after taking his shirt off and showing it off to the Madrid fans. The Argentina National Team captain has now scored 500 goals in merely 577 matches.

Mauro ICARDI keeps lighting it up for Inter, this time in Inter’s 5-4 loss to Fiorentina. The Inter captain scored a hattrick, the last goal coming off a header as he brings his season tally to 26 goals in all competitions with 24 of them coming in Serie A. If the rumors are true and Jorge SAMPAOLI becomes the new Argentina National Team coach, Mauro ICARDI would be called-up to the Argentina National Team as early as June when they play Brazil and Singapore.

Sergio AGUERO also found the back of the net, scoring in Manchester City’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the FA Cup. It was goal number 166 for AGUERO in a Manchester City shirt, making him the club’s joint second all-time top scorer. After being benched earlier in the year and rumors circulating about his exit from the club, AGUERO has come back very strong for City, now scoring 12 goals in his last 12 appearances for the club.
