The draw for the semi finals of the UEFA Champions League has taken place, we have the Champions League semi final preview and the Argentine’s have been split.

Paulo DYBALA, Gonzalo HIGUAIN, Angel CORREA, Nicolas GAITAN, Augusto FERNANDEZ and coach Diego SIMEONE. Those are the Argentinians that are left standing in the semi finals of this season’s Champions League. For Juventus, DYBALA and HIGUAIN will play Monaco with the first leg away and the second in Turin.

Diego SIMEONE’s side will be looking for a third Champions League final birth and will be playing the team which beat them in the 2013-2014 and 2015-2016 finals, Real Madrid. The first match of the Madrid derby will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid’s home stadium with the second played at the Vicente Calderon. Diego SIMEONE had this to say ahead of the match:

Diego SIMEONE:

“I always feel a bit scared before games. I’m isolated from everything, and with the tension it’s normal. You’ve got a lot of responsibility and that gets bigger and bigger. I feel it facing any side – irrespective of the match and opposition.”

“They’ll come out strong as they always do at home. They can play in different systems with Isco, James, Asensio. They’ll try and hurt us from the off. We need to be strong and stay as cool as possible. It’ll be tight but hopefully we can take advantage of the spaces we create.”

Argentina against Brazil, Singapore could be domestic based team

14

Details are slowly beginning to emerge regarding Argentina’s upcoming matches against Brazil and Singapore.

All eyes will be on the Argentina bench come June 9 when the team takes the pitch at the MCG. As we reported last week, with current Sevilla coach Jorge SAMPAOLI’s job as the coach of the Argentina National Team all but official, rumors are beginning to surface regarding the two matches.

According to Gustavo YARROCH (of radio La Red and La Nacion), Inter captain Mauro ICARDI will be called to the team. This would be ICARDI’s second ever call-up to the squad, after having gotten his first cap in 2013 under Alejandro SABELLA against Uruguay. Furthermore, there are rumors that the team for the two matches could be made up mostly of domestic based players. While it might be difficult to keep Lionel MESSI away from the team, considering how much money the AFA would potentially stand to lose, the idea appears to be that it would mostly be players made up of the Argentina Primera who would make the squad.

May 19 is the day which Jorge SAMPAOLI is expected to announce the team.

Boca Juniors go top of table in Argentine Primera

Playing at home at La Bombonera, Boca Juniors are top of the table following a 3-0 win against Arsenal in the Argentine Primera.

It was Gonzalo MARONI, who at only 18 years old, stole the show and showed how much of a gem he really is. A sombrero, nutmego and goal of the match was enough for him to steal the spotlight.

Prior to Boca’s 3-0 win, they had visitors at the top of the table with Newell’s Old Boys keeping up their fight for the league title. On Saturday, an Ignacio SCOCCO goal (deflected) saw Newell’s pick up a 1-0 win against Huracan. Here’s how the league table stands:

Ezequiel LAVEZZI scores twice for Hebei China Fortune

Ezequiel LAVEZZI has once again found the back of the net.

It’s been a long time since we’ve posted an Ezequiel LAVEZZI goal. As a matter of fact, the last time we did, it was during the 2016 Copa America Centenario semi final for Argentina against the United States. About 10 months later, LAVEZZI has found himself back on the scoresheet.

The man who keeps finding himself in the Argentina National Team squad scored twice for Hebei China Fortune in their 4-0 win against Tianjin TEDA.

Joaquin CORREA’s superb goal for Sevilla against Celta

Joaquin CORREA scored for Sevilla in their 2-1 win against Celta.

It was Jorge SAMPAOLI’s Sevilla against Eduardo BERIZZO’s Celta. The future Argentina National Team coach Jorge SAMPAOLI’s team won 2-1 courtesy of a superb goal by Joaquin CORREA. Not to be outdone by Javier MASCHERANO who scored his first goal for FC Barcelona, the Sevilla man picked up the ball and while channeling his inner Lionel MESSI, ran across the area dribbling around defenders before putting the ball past the goalkeeper.
