Geronimo RULLI: “A dream to win a medal”

Real Sociedad goalkeeper Geronimo RULLI spoke to FIFA.com about the Olympics, being part of the Argentina National Team and more. After leaving RULLI out of the Argentina squad for the 2015 Copa America, Gerardo MARTINO had this to say about the goalkeeper:

"RULLI will probably be the national team keeper for the next ten years. Barring any strange happenings, that ought to be the case."

That seems to be the general feeling among Albiceleste fans regarding the goalkeeper position. As for RULLI, here’s what he had to say:

"I love sport and being at the Olympic Games or the World Cup is the pinnacle of what a footballer can aspire to. It must be an incredible atmosphere to play in and to share in with other sports. It would be a dream for me to be there and win a medal."

"There’s always reason to believe with the national team. There are great players who, despite being under 23, have already gone a long way in football. Argentina should always be favourites for any competition they’re playing in and I have no doubts it’ll be the same in Rio. However, if I want to be involved, I have to perform well for my club. Here’s hoping I can keep up what I’ve been doing in recent games and the call-up comes."

Tata MARTINO: “We have a lot of number 9’s”

0

Tata MARTINO spoke about the forwards which could get called up later this month for Argentina, Lionel MESSI and FUNES MORI. Here’s what he had to say:

“I could call up HIGUAIN and Marco RUBEN. But AGUERO’s also great. It’s impossible to call that many number 9’s. Unfortunately, we have a lot of very good number 9’s.”

“MESSI received the award (Ballon d’Or) for the 5th time and he prefers to win someting with the National Team. He’s obsessed.”

“FUNES MORI’s done well and continues to do well. He’s earned his place in the National Team.”

Lionel MESSI: “Losing with National Team hurts”

0

Speaking to El Grafico, Lionel MESSI spoke about a number of topics.

On the subjects of Argentina and his playing career, MESSI spoke about retirement, Gabriel BATISTUTA’s goalscoring record for the National Team and not winning the World Cup and Copa America.

On finishing his career in Argentina:
“I’ve always said: It’s something I think about and I’d like to do it. I don’t know when but it’s a possibility.”

Until when he would keep playing:
“I don’t set any goals, be it for the near future or distant future but I’d like to go for as long as my body allows me to. When I know it’s the end, I’ll make the decision.”

About getting closer to BATISTUTA’s Argentina goal record:
“I’d prefer to win something with the National Team even if it’s off an own goal. Records are there but they don’t interest me because those don’t win you titles.”

If losing the Copa America hurt more than the World Cup:
“Everything that was lost with the National Team hurts me because I know we should have won. At the World Cup and the Copa America, we deserved to win.”
