2017 South American Youth Football Championship DRAW

Hey everyone! I hope you are all doing well.

The 2017 Under-20 South American Youth Championship (Campeonato Sudamericano Sub-20) held the groups draw today in Paraguay.  This championship tournament will be held in Ecuador from January 13 to February 5th.  The top four teams will qualify directly to the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in South Korea.

Take a look to see how Argentina fared in the group draw below.  The top three teams in each group qualified for the Final Stage.

The sub-20 team actually played a friendly today in Argentina vs. Japan.  They won 2-1.  Goals from Lautaro Martínez and Joaquín Pereyra (ROSARIO CENTRAL).  The 11 that started the match were: Franco Petroli (RIVER PLATE); Nahuel Molina (BOCA JUNIORS) , Cristian Gabriel Romero (BELGRANO), Marcos Senesi (SAN LORENZO), Milton Valenzuela (NEWELL’S); Santiago Ascacíbar (ESTUDIANTES), Pedro Ojeda (ROSARIO CENTRAL); Lucas Rodríguez (ESTUDIANTES), Matias Zaracho (RACING CLUB), Brian Mansilla (RACING CLUB); Lautaro Martínez (RACING CLUB). Coach: Claudio Úbeda.

Unfortunately, Ascacíbar had to get get subbed out due to a knock on his left ankle.

Lionel MESSI, Angel DI MARIA score on Tuesday

Tuesday night’s Champions League matches produced two goals by two two Argentine players.

Veterans of the Argentina National Team Lionel MESSI and Angel DI MARIA both scored on Tuesday for their respective clubs. Lionel MESSI scored the first of Barcelona’s four goals in their 4-0 win against Borussia Monchengladbach. MESSI’s goal brings his tally up to 10 goals in the Champions League this season.

Angel DI MARIA scored in the 92nd minute for PSG in their 2-2 draw against Ludogorets in Paris. DI MARIA’s goal was his second in five matches in the tournament this season.

Sergio AGUERO and Robero PEREYRA sent off in England on Saturday

It was an uneventful day for Sergio AGUERO and Roberto PEREYRA and for all the wrong reasons.

During Manchester City’s English Premier League match against Chelsea, Sergio AGUERO got a straight red card (his second of the season) for a horrific kick out on David LUIZ. With the score at 3-1 for the visitors, AGUERO and David LUIZ went in for the same ball with AGUERO instead lashing out and tackling him resulting in a straight red card.

AGUERO could face disciplinary action with a 4 game ban (as opposed to a 3 game ban) as it is his second red card of the season.

Sergio AGUERO wasn’t the only Argentine getting red carded in England on Saturday as Roberto PEREYRA saw red for Watford in their 3-1 loss to West Brom. Claudio YACOB played the full 90 minutes for the winners.

Joaquin CORREA hattrick for Sevilla, Angel CORREA, PIATTI goals

Joaquin CORREA hattrick for Sevilla, Angel CORREA, PIATTI goals

Three Argentine’s found their names on the scoresheet on Wednesday, including a hattrick by Joaquin CORREA.

Two CORREA’s (Joaquin and Angel) found the back of the net for their clubs while Ignacio PIATTI scored for the Montreal Impact. Joaquin CORREA scored a hattrick for Sevilla in their 5-1 win in the Copa del Rey against Formentera.

Angel CORREA scored Atletico’s 5th goal of the match in their 6-0 win against Guijuelo.

In what was an absolutely crazy match, Ignacio PIATTI scored for the Montreal Impact in their 5-2 loss (7-5 on aggregate) against Toronto FC in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
