Claudio Echeverri scores a free kick for Manchester City in 6-0 win vs. Al Ain

Claudio Echeverri scored for Manchester City in their 6-0 victory over Al Ain on Matchday 2 of the Club World Cup.

The 19-year-old Argentine started the match for Pep Guardiola’s side and was substituted at halftime. Early in the game, Echeverri suffered an unfortunate foul that left him on the ground and requiring medical attention for several minutes. It is speculated that this was the reason for his substitution at the break.

The former River Plate man scored his first goal for Manchester City just minutes after that foul, with a spectacular strike over the wall that gave his team a 2-0 lead.

Echeverri’s Manchester City will play for the top spot in Group H against Nicolás González’s Juventus next Thursday, aiming to avoid facing Real Madrid in the Round of 16.

River Plate draw 0-0 vs. Monterrey, group standings for Boca Juniors at Club World Cup

River Plate drew 0-0 against Urawa Red Diamonds on Friday as they lead Group E while Boca Juniors find themselves third in Group C with one more match remaining.

It was a goal less draw for River Plate and despite goals from Lautaro Martinez and Valentin Carboni, both River Plate and Inter find themselves on four points each. River Plate will play Inter on Wednesday and while both are on four points and River Plate lead by one goal difference, one of them can still get eliminated.

Third place Monterrey are on two points and they play last place Urawa Red Diamonds. A win for Monterrey and a loss for either River Plate or Inter can see them eliminated from the Club World Cup.

Boca Juniors played to a 2-1 loss against Bayern Munich, despite a great goal by Miguel Merentiel. That loss keeps Boca in third place at one point, ahead of the already eliminated Auckland City. Bayern Munich have already qualified and are first on six points while Benfica are second on four points.

A draw between Benfica and Bayern Munich would eliminate Boca Juniors but a win for Bayern along with an eight goal win difference against Auckland City for Boca and it would be Boca Juniors who would advance out of the group.

Lautaro Martinez and Valentin Carboni score for Inter in 2-1 win vs. Urawa Red Diamonds

Lautaro Martínez and Valentín Carboni scored for Inter in their 2-1 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds. It was a hard-fought and challenging match for the Italian side, who remain alive in the Club World Cup thanks to goals from the Argentine duo.

The Japanese team took an early lead, and Lautaro came close to equalizing in the first half with a header that struck the crossbar.

In the 78th minute, the 27-year-old Argentine forward connected with a corner kick and scored a stunning bicycle kick to level the match, releasing all his frustration in the celebration.

In stoppage time, recently substituted Carboni—returning from a long injury layoff—found the ball inside the box and calmly finished with his right foot, placing the ball just inside the post to seal the 2-1 win.

Inter will play their final group stage match against River Plate next Wednesday.
