Lionel Messi spoke about playing at the 2026 World Cup with Argentina and Ángel Di María.

Messi will be playing with the Argentina national team at the 2024 Copa America and is presently with the team training in Miami. In an interview with Pollo Alvarez, Messi commented on winning the World Cup, the Copa America and his Argentina career. In the same interview, he also spoke about playing at the 2026 World Cup. Here is what he had to say:

“It depends on how I feel, how I am physically and being realistic with myself. Knowing if I am capable of competing and helping my teammates, knowing how I am physically.

“There’s still a lot of time left… “a lot and a little”, because it goes by quickly. But there is still some time and I don’t know how I will be at that moment. Age is also a reality that is there, even though it’s just a number.

“The matches I will play now aren’t the same as those I played when I was in Europe competing every three days, either in the Champions League or in the league, whether in France or Spain. But it depends on how I feel and what I feel being alongside my teammates and seeing if I am still up to the level or not… let’s see.”

He was also asked about Ángel Di María retiring:

“Di María’s retirement from the National Team? Just yesterday or the day before we were talking that now it’s Ota, Fide, and me, and well… soon it will just be two of us left [after the Copa America], me and Ota [Nicolás Otamendi].”

Lionel Messi commented on winning the World Cup, the Copa America and his Argentina career.

Messi has won every trophy he has ever competed for at club level and with the Argentina national team. Presently with the Argentina national team in Florida, Messi gave an interview with Pollo Alvarez about having won everything. Here is what he had to say:

“Being a world champion makes you… or for me, it made me feel accomplished. I achieved everything, I was able to achieve the goals and dreams I had. Being able to say that is very difficult…

“But then life goes on. I had to continue in Paris, I live here and keep trying to achieve things, to keep winning. Now we have another challenge with the national team, to try to win the Copa America.”

He was also asked about how it was with Argentina while he was winning everything with FC Barcelona:

“Before, I used to feel that when I was at Barcelona, winning everything, I was being loved by the people. But when I went to the national team, it was like something was missing. Being able to achieve everything was the ultimate thing for me.

“When I was in Barcelona, with the national team, in Paris, the affection I always received from the people of Argentina, despite the difficult moments I went through with the national team as well, I always felt it, I always appreciated it.”

Argentina national team train on Thursday in Miami

The Argentina national team trained on Thursday in Miami.

Lionel Scaloni’s team trained on Thursday as they continue to prepare for their friendly match against Ecuador. The Argentina national team did different exercises during their training.

The team trained on the pitch, with Leonardo Balerdi, Marcos Acuña and Nicolás Tagliafico being the football tennis champions. Following training on the pitch, the team did exercises in the gym.

Scaloni will reportedly use an alternate starting eleven for the match against Ecuador on Sunday.
