Argentina will get their third star and the third one will be above the other two. The three stars will not be aligned one next to the other but instead the original two will remain with the third being added above them in the middle.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni bursted into tears as Gonzalo Montiel scored and Argentina won the World Cup.

Lionel Scaloni is the first Argentine coach since Carlos Bilardo to lift a World Cup. And his emotions at half time were a thing of beauty.

Scaloni would sit on the bench before standing back up and letting his emotions out as he was hugged by Leandro Paredes.

Lionel Messi has waited his entire life and football career to win the World Cup and footage of the final penalty kick have emerged, with the camera on Messi himself.

It was a final to remember and while before the match all eyes were on Lionel Messi, in this footage, the camera literally was on Lionel Messi. It was Gonzalo Montiel who took the winning penalty kick and as the players rushed from the half way line, the Argentina captain dropped to his knees onto the floor.

A few of the players ran back to celebrate with Messi and Sergio Aguero even joined in on the celebrations!

Lionel Messi has spoken about winning the World Cup with Argentina.

Messi is a World Cup winner. Lionel Messi, like Daniel Passarella and Diego Maradona before him, has captained and lifted the World Cup trophy as captain of the Argentina national team. Speaking to the media after winning the World Cup, here is what Messi had to say:

“It’s crazy that it happened this way. I wanted it very much. I knew that God was going to give it to me. Now to enjoy it.

“Look at this cup, it’s beautiful. We suffered a lot but we made it. We can’t wait to be in Argentina and to see how crazy it’s going to be.

“This was the trophy I have wanted all of my life. This was my dream since childhood.”

He also spoke with Gastón Edul of TyC Sports about his future:

“I am not retiring from the Argentina national team. I want to continue playing as a champion.”
