Lionel Messi has posted pictures in the Argentina national team’s new away shirt for the World Cup.

Messi posted two pictures on his Instagram account in the new dark shirt for the Argentina. Adidas has once more opted to shy away from an all blue or dark blue color for Argentina’s alternate kit.

In 2018, Adidas went with an all black kit alternate kit and in 2022, Argentina had a pre-dominant purple color World Cup away shirt. For 2026, Adidas have gone with a black kit which has different shades of blue across it.

The AFA emblem with the three stars and the World Cup champions badge is in white, same as the numbering and lettering.

Fans looking to get their hands on the new kit can already purchase the 2026 Argentina away jersey through the official AFA Store, where it is now available as part of the latest collection ahead of the World Cup.

Argentina against Guatemala has fallen through and the AFA are looking for possible opponents.

The Argentina national team were set to play against Guatemala on March 31 but that match appears to have been cancelled. According to Esteban Edul, the match has fallen through and the AFA are looking at possible African national teams to play against.

As reported, Argentina against Guatemala was at risk due to a FIFA regulation conflict and the match will not be happening.

Argentina vs. Guatemala friendly at risk due to FIFA regulation conflict

Argentina’s scheduled friendly match against Guatemala in March is in serious doubt and could be canceled due to a FIFA regulation that restricts teams from playing across different continents within the same international window.

The match between the two national teams was set to take place on Tuesday, March 31, just three months before the 2026 World Cup. However, uncertainty has emerged after Guatemala confirmed another friendly against Algeria in Italy earlier in the same window.

According to FIFA regulations, national teams are not allowed to play matches on two different continents during a single international break. The rule is designed to protect players from excessive travel demands and to ensure proper recovery time between matches.

As a result, Guatemala could be forced to withdraw from the match against Argentina, putting the fixture at risk of cancellation. The situation has created urgency within the Argentine Football Association, which is already working to find an alternative opponent for the upcoming international window.

Reports indicate that Argentina’s coaching staff, led by Lionel Scaloni, is keen to maintain match rhythm ahead of the World Cup and does not want to lose a scheduled fixture. The AFA is reportedly exploring options to secure a new opponent for March 27 as a potential replacement.

This issue adds to recent scheduling complications for Argentina. The Finalissima against Spain, which was set to feature the Copa América and European Championship winners, was officially canceled on March 15 after organizers were unable to agree on a date and venue, with plans in the Middle East ruled out due to regional conflicts.

With limited time to adjust the schedule, Argentina now faces a race against the clock to finalize its March preparations as it continues building toward the 2026 World Cup.
