Argentina remain in the top three in the FIFA rankings.

The Argentina national team stay in third place in the FIFA rankings ahead of France and England. Brazil are first and Belgium in second.

Lionel Scaloni’s team won the Finalissima 3-0 vs. Italy in June and that was followed by five goals scored by Lionel Messi in a 5-0 win vs. Estonia. Argentina play Honduras and Jamaica next month in the United States. Here are the latest rankings for this month:

Lionel Messi, Ángel Di María and Nicolás Otamendi are all in the same group in the Champions League as the draw was made on Thursday.

The UEFA Champions League draw was held on Thursday and Group G has seven Argentine players, the most out of any in a group. There are 25 Argentine players in the Champions League this season. Here is the draw with the Argentine players per team:

Lucho González named new coach of Brazilian club Ceará

Lucho González has been named as the new coach of Brazilian club Lucho González.

The Argentine is now coaching his first club after being an assistant at Athletico Paranaense. The 41 year old finished his career at the club and will sign until December 2022.

Ceará announced it on their social media channels. Part of his coaching staff are Emanuel Depaoli, Walter Scarinci and the physical trainer Diego Giachinno.

Depaoli has previous experience with the Ecuadorian national team as well as clubs in Argentina, Ecuador and Bolivia. Scarinci worked at clubs in France such as OGC Nice, Montpellier, Monaco and Dijon.

Giacchino worked with the Colombian and Iranian national teams at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.

Juan Foyth could join FC Barcelona from Villarreal, pending Aubameyang transfer

Juan Foyth could be joining FC Barcelona from Villarreal.

Foyth could be joining Xavi’s team pending one transfer. According to Gerard Romero, if Aubameyang leaves Barcelona, Foyth will be a Barcelona player.

The Argentine has been targetted by Barcelona as their problems at right back continue. The club have made several signings in the transfer window and Foyth’s name emerged as a possible target a few weeks ago.

Still only 24 years old, Foyth joined Villarreal back in 2020, initially on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. He signed with the club last year and was an integral part in the team last season when they made the semi finals of the Champions League.

He will be looking to get regular playing time as the Argentine will want to make the Argentina national team for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Lionel Messi, Ángel Di María and 23 more Argentine players have qualified for the 2022-2023 UEFA Champions League.

A total of 25 Argentine’s will take part in the Champions League this season with not one having qualified for the final last season. Spain boasts the most Argentine players in this season’s tournament with eight players.

In France, it’s Lionel Messi, Leandro Paredes, Mauro Icardi and Leonardo Balerdi but that could become two less. Leandro Paredes is being linked with a move to Juventus with Mauro Icardi linked with a move away from France.

Julián Álvarez could make his Champions League debut with Manchester City. The Argentine scored for City in their 3-3 draw vs. FC Barcelona on Wednesday. Cristian Romero will want to continue his good form with Tottenham Hotspur.

Ángel Di María is the only Argentine in Italy who has won the Champions League. He and 19 year old Matías Soulé are with Juventus with Lautaro Martínez and Joaquín Correa with Inter. Gio Simeone has signed with Napol and will be part of the tournament.

Sevilla have five Argentine players with them. Lucas Ocampos, Marcos Acuña, Gonzalo Montiel, Erik Lamela and Papu Gómez are part of the club.

Rodrigo De Paul, Ángel Correa and Nahuel Molina will be coached by Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid. Lucas Alario joined Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt with Exequiel Palacios at Bayer Leverkusen.

Nicolás Capaldo is the only Argentine in Austria with RB Salzurg as is Alexandro Bernabei with Celtic in Scotland. Benfica have both Nicolás Otamendi and Enzo Fernández.
