Six Argentina players that won the World Cup in 2022 are not part of the preliminary list of 55 players for the World Cup.
Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni named on Monday his preliminary list of 55 players for the World Cup which starts next month. Franco Armani, Juan Foyth, Ángel Di María, Ángel Correa, Alejandro Gómez and Paulo Dybala are not included in the preliminary list.
Franco Armani was the second choice goalkeeper at the World Cup and has since retired from the Argentina national team. Juan Foyth has been out injured since January with an Achilles tendon rupture.
Ángel Di María has retired from the Argentina national team and Ángel Correa, with Tigres UANL, was not selected. Alejandro Gómez is playing with Padova in Italy’s second division.
Paulo Dybala, with AS Roma, has not been selected by coach Lionel Scaloni.

Dybala can’t even stay fit for four consecutive games, even if he’s only playing 60 minutes each match. And if Scaloni wanted a super-sub or a backup option for Messi’s role, we already have Nico Paz this time. But it’s was time to move on from him.
It might actually be a blessing in disguise that some of our key players picked up injuries early enough to fully recover before the World Cup. There will still be friendlies before the tournament, but that three-week training camp will be crucial. Lautaro, Romero, Licha, Molina, Nico and Julin all avoided major injuries, which means they should come into the World Cup camp properly rested and recovered. I am not going to worry about lack of playing time during the end of the season.
Additionally, I am curious about our full-back situation. Is the team management going to stick with Tagliafico and Acuna, or could one of Gabriel Rojas be picked over Acua, who seems to have lost significant pace? His position requires nonstop running from one end of the pitch to the other constantly. The same applies to Tagliafico too, as he has also lost quite a bit of pace.
Having said that, Medina does not give me much confidence when played as a LB, even though he hasnt been tried there enough times. The same applies to our RB situation. Yes, molina may have shown some flashes of improvement recently, but over the past couple of years he has been below average and was even benched by makeshift RB Llorente, in multiple seasons. Montiel has always been inconsistent. an average full-back who failed at almost every club in Europe and was benched by the granpa J.Navas.However, the World Cup is a different environment and different team, and they do have chemistry with the CBs and CMs to work together against pacy wingers.
It sucks not to see Dybala on that list. I can’t say that I’m surprised. It seems Scaloni has something against him. I understand he’s injury prone but Scaloni rarely ever called him up even when he’s ok. To not even have in on the list of 55 is a slap in the face.
I dont blame Scaloni. Dybala cant even stay fit to play for a full game for his club. Imagine him getting injured while in the WC. I would not pick a player who is going to get injured in the tournament. With Dybala skills its sucks not to have him but its his fitness. I would never take a chance in the WC.
