Lionel Messi returns, Manuel Lanzini make Argentina team for World Cup qualifiers

Lionel Messi returns with Manuel Lanzini also being included in the Argentina national team for the March World Cup qualifiers.

Messi is back in the team after being rested for the February World Cup qualifying matches. Argentina national team coach has called up 33 players for the matches.

Four players are suspended for the March qualifiers. As we reported, Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, Gio Lo Celso, Cristian Romero and Emiliano Buendía are all suspended.

Paulo Dybala is not part of the team which has been called up. Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton remains in the team as Lucas Boyé receives his first ever call up. Here are the players:

Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid have drawn Manchester City in the Chamopions League.

Simeone will not have an easy path to the Champions League should they win it. The reigning La Liga champions will play the reigning Premier League champions. Simeone with Rodrigo De Paul and Ángel Correa eliminated Manchester United to get to the quarter finals.

Geronimo Rulli, Gio Lo Celso and Juan Foyth are drawn against Bayern Munich from Germany. The reigning Europa League champions eliminated Juventus on Wednesday.

Nicolás Otamendi and Benfica are drawn against Liverpool. Otamendi and Benfica eliminated Ajax on Wednesday as they are drawn against a Liverpool team which is still competing for the league title. The other match is Chelsea against Real Madrid.

Argentina U20 to play United States U20 in March, players called to the team

The Argentina U20 team will play the United States U20 team in March.

Javier Mascherano will coach his first match in charge of the Argentina U20 team as they play the United States on March 25 in Argentina. The match has been confirmed omn the U.S. Soccer website as they will also play River Plate three days later.

Alejandro Papu Gómez is injured for Sevilla and will miss Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers.

Papu Gómez, who is not part of the Sevilla team for their Europa League match against West Ham has been ruled out for Argentina. According to TyC Sports, he will miss the qualifying matches against Venezuela and Ecuador this month.

Gómez suffered a muscle problem against Real Betis in La Liga and will not be part of the list of players for the two matches.

Geronimo Rulli keeps clean sheet for Villarreal in 3-0 win vs. Juventus

Geronimo Rulli kept a clean sheet for Villarreal in their 3-0 win vs. Juventus in the Champions League.

Rulli saved five shots on target, four of them from the first half. His first big save of the match came from a Morata header in the first half but his reactions denied the Juventus striker.

The Argentine would make a save on Juventus star signing Vlahovic as he would get the clean sheet. Gio Lo Celso started the match for Villarreal with Juan Foyth on the bench. Paulo Dybala would be brought on as a substitute for Juventus.

Still only 29 years old Rulli is part of the preliminary Argentina team for the two World Cup qualifiers this month.
