Lionel Messi could be rested for Argentina during this month’s World Cup qualifying matches.

Messi may not be included in the Argentina team for January. The Copa America champions are already qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and as we reported earlier, coach Lionel Scaloni is expected to make some changes for the next call-up. Because of COVID, Scaloni is expected to not call-up as many European based players, not to cause any more problems with the clubs.

Argentina national team coaching staff spoke to Lionel Messi about the January and February matches. According to TyC Sports, Scaloni’s idea is to rest Messi and not call him up for the matches. Per the report, Messi has asked for a few days before he makes a decision. The 34 year old has started every 2022 World Cup qualifying match for Argentina, except for the match against Uruguay in November.

Argentina play Chile away at altitude in the desert on January 27 before playing on February 1 against Colombia at home. Scaloni is expected to call up Manuel Lanzini and Gio Simeone to the Argentina team.

Manuel Lanzini and Gio Simeone are both expected to be called-up to the Argentina national team.

The two Argentine players will likely be in the Argentina team this month as coach Lionel Scaloni is rumored to be making a few changes. According to TyC Sports, Lionel Scaloni will not call-up players that are not fully fit. He will not force the hand of European clubs to release their players.

Lanzini scored twice for West Ham against Crystal Palace while Gio Simeone is on 12 goals in 19 matches this season. Scaloni is expected to call-up mostly local based players to the team. Per the report, it would be mostly in the back line and midfield.

The three players are among the several in Serie A which tested positive as it was announced on Wednesday. Juan Musso and Nicolás Domínguez are expected to be part of the Argentina national team for the January and February World Cup qualifying matches.

Flamengo are interested in signing Agustín Marchesín of Argentina, FC Porto.

Agustín Marchesín could be signing with Brazilian club Flamengo. According to TyC Sports, the 33 year old wants out of FC Porto with Flamengo as a possible destination.

Marchesín has lost his starting spot with FC Porto after suffering an injury at the start of the season. He started his career with Lanus before joining Santos Laguna. From there, he would join Club America before making the transfer over to Europe.

With the Argentina national team, Marchesín won the Copa America.
