Esteban CAMBIASSO announces retirement

Esteban CAMBIASSO has announced his retirement.

Former Argentina international and Inter legend Esteban CAMBIASSO has called it a day. The 37 year old midfielder last played for Greek club Olympiacos but has had a massive career.

A product of Argentinos Juniors, Cucho played in five different leagues, reaching the pinnacle of his career with Internazionale in Italy when he won a historic treble with the club. At senior level, CAMBIASSO played with Independiente and River Plate in Argentina, Real Madrid in Spain, Internazionale in Italy, Leicester City in England and finally Olympiacos in Greece.

A total of 21 trophies won in his club career included (and obviously not limited to) a La Liga and UEFA Super Cup trophy with Real Madrid as well as a UEFA Champions League trophy, five Serie A titles and a Club World Cup with Internazionale. In Greece, CAMBIASSO ended his career on a high note winning back to back Superleague titles.

Esteban CAMBIASSO and Argentina

With his country, CAMBIASSO will forever be remembered as the goalscorer of one of the (depending on who you ask)) nicest team goals ever scored at a World Cup after rounding off a lovely play which consisted of 24 passes at the 2006 World Cup against Serbia and Montenegro. Oh and don’t worry, we have the clip of the goal below! He won two South American Youth Championships with Argentina in 1997 and 1999 and the big one at youth level, the 1997 World Cup.

An excellent midfielder and not a bad eye for goal either (90 goals in 702 matches for a defensive midfielder), it’s fair to say Esteban CAMBIASSO has left his mark on the beautiful game. Obviously for a player like CAMBIASSO, statistics won’t do him justice. A true professional, he was the back bone for Inter when they were dominating the Serie A and especially when they won the Champions League back in 2010.

Thank you for everything, Cuchu!

  1. So Sampaoli may call up Pavon, Pablo Perez and Gago. The first two ok, but comeback to Gago is too much. He is in great form but still can’t understand why Sampaoli droped Nacho Fernandez – which is similar position player to Gago and Perez – without give him a real trial. Nacho is not only younger than the two but also I don’t see Gago and Perez giving us so much as Nacho may.

What for he called up Nacho and Papu Gomez? To curry favour to all those people that were talking still about them, to make first good impression.

      • Agreed, Gago cannot add much to Sampaoli’s side. Banega, Biglia, Gago, etc. are too slow to fit into Sampaoli’s scheme. After Sampaoli’s first team selection, I thought Nacho and Paredes are going to be Sampaoli’s central midfield pair!

Paredez-Perez and Perez-Nacho are decent enough for the NT!

        • Nacho, Pablo Perez, Paredes, Battaglia, Ascacibar, Pizarro, Lanzini – as for me.

While Bauza was completely closed to any new names looks like Sampaoli is rotating too fast without honest trial. How was Nacho examined? Few minutes against Hong-Kong?!

        • @Sandy

what about Maxi Romero of Velez scoring another 2 goals in Superliga. 2 games -4 goals. For me he is now the second most hot youngster in league. THe second, because his teammate Matias Vargas is No.1 IMO what I was expectating before season. Real crack. Another U-20 categor player of Velez which is outstanding is Santiago Caseres.

          • I read it in Golazo Argentino and is waiting for the full match video. Last year, whenever I saw him, mostly he was not a starter. He is a talented striker. I hope he started against Atletico Tuccuman.

  2. we have the best player ever playing for us… we have the best Argentine coach at the moment… all we need is a motivater like Nicholas James Vujicic to clear all heads and freshen them up.
    .
If we are not destined to win the world cup then nobody on earth can help us… but if we are destined to win the world cup then no man on earth can stop us…
    .
we just pray for The Grace of God on Argentina…
    .
Prayer brings Victory. Fasting and Prayer is a sure Victory.
