Matias Vargas scored for Espanyol in their 1-1 draw vs. Ferencvaros in the Europa League.

The former Velez Sarsfield man can’t stop producing for his new team. A goal or an assist, Vargas is proving to be a very valuable asset for Espanyol. With Facundo Ferreyra out injured, Vargas was in the starting eleven for Espanyol.

With Ferencvaros leading 1-0, a ball was sent into the penalty area. After taking a bounce, it fell to a Vargas who headed the ball which hit the post but Vargas ended up kicking it into the net.

Vargas now has four goals in five Europa League games this season, including the qualifiers.

  1. Yes vs Columbia was 0:0 with this trio, than brilliant goal and assist machine player of the tournament De Paul in (LOL) and 0:2 in the second half. Interesting…better and better? Messi step back in deep lying playmaker role cause our midfield was unable to pass the ball to the forwards and Aguero-Lautaro duo built some chemistry…better and better…zero team play, zero passing patterns, counter attacking schemes or good build ups…better and better and scored 7 goals in 6 matches against half-amateur teams LOL idiot

  2. “If you dream about that just little reminder: so was our attacking line against Colombia in Copa America, idiot (0:2).” Please at least dont lie…De Paul was the reason idiot…Di Maria still a feared player, then came De Paul and Columbia defense get calm down, who the fuck fear from this uncreative hard worker poor mans Matuidi? Nobody and they started to attack…

  3. Enganche, that’s so true about Csabalala what you’ve said. He simply is much determined to find any mistake of our players and in order to do that is cinstantly changing his standards:

“When Martinez allegedly has a terrible game (which he didn’t, he was ok) you claim that he sucks even though by and large he performs well for the NT. When Tagliafico plays really well for Ajax it’s not good enough for you either because he supposedly sucks for the NT. It seems like damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation with you all the time”.

    • Csabalala,

where from you big interest about ahat happend to Ascacibar. If you are so much convinced that he is nothing special why you actually digging internet to inform us how bad it is with him that he even does not start for second division team. Yes, you are extremely determined fault haunter. Lautaro, Ascacibar – maybe they have tough period for their clubs but only perverse man of ill will want to use it in a way you do.

    • Yeah, he acts like a troll or at the very least a negative person who at times ephasizes certain shortcomings of our team or players but in a such a nasty way. Very acerbic, bitter and unnecessarily harsh attitude.

  4. Crespo’s club career unsuccessful!!??
The guy was a world class, played for top clubs and he has even achieved the most expensive transfer in the world a specific period of time when he was playing! Huge talent when he was in River, top player in Parma, the golden team of Lazio, Inter, the great team of AC Milan of 2005, only in Chelsea he didn’t have such a good run, like another legend who i liked a lot, Shevchenko, so what are you talking about?? Did your crush to Wanda made you that delussional?? Are you having a “bad trip”??

Man, i really don’t want to be rude to anyone but the amount of bullshit and rubbish i am reading in here are beyond insanity!

    • What crepso won in his club career or even individually if you compare with Higuain or Aguero, crepso is highly unsuccessful at least Icardi won golden boot and sere A best player award individually still a lot of time left for Icardi to win siverwear.

      • Yes you are right. Crespo didn’t win anything in his club career apart from an Aperture title with River in 94, copa libertadores with River in 96, the 98-99 UEFA title with Parma, scudetto with Inter, premier league title with Chelsea, scored the two out of three goals in AC Milan’s defeat to Liverpool in 05 champions league final when the second was a brace, supercopa italiano with both Parma and Lazio, was serie A top scorer in 2000 when serie A was still the best European league ever back then, made a world transfer record when Lazio bought him from Parma in 2000 and he is among the list of 100 best players ever.

But you are right, he didn’t accomplish anything during his club career and surely can be compared to Icardi!

And just for your own information, i also like Icardi but he is miles behind Creso at least for now.

  5. “Superliga is better than Bundesliga 2”

    – Sir Csabalala

What a jibe at the grace of Argentine football?

Sir, the fact is that if it’s in terms of Ascasibar not proving good at Bundesliga 2 (although facts suggest a different narrative, as it’s always been with you) and hence moving to the sanctum of Estudiantes, then not just your Bundesliga 2, the Bundesliga itself should be considered a level or two below Superliga!

Because a kid named Mateo Klimowicz, after scoring 5 goals for Instituto (a regulation second division club in Argentina) has managed to secure a move to the same Stuttgart (a regulation first division club in Germany) this summer.

Just in case the C2C player transaction was alone taken into account…..

  6. Lautaro is still raw talent, he is long way to go to become world class even Lukaku looked world class in front of lautaro. Let’s see how he developed otherwise he will remembered like Crepso good for NT but overall career wise unsuccessful

  7. ………………Romero…….
    Zanetti…..ayala….simone…..sorin……
    …………..mascerano………
    Messi……requelme……..ortega…
    ……Cl. Lopez……batistuta……..

Only messi, romero present player in my last 20 years team….

  8. Lautaro is horrible in Inter, cant give a fucking pass precisely, he is far far from a world class forward atm its clear, vs Germany Di Maria and Aguero is a must, in 14 we won easily with them

    • “he is far far from a world class forward”
It all depends how you define ‘World Class’, do you mean he is among the top 5 strikers in the world? because he is not, but ‘most likely’ he will be, soon. The future might prove me wrong, but might prove right, too, so I am leaning towards the ‘most likely’ outcome. it all depends on the player and his hard work to achieve such status. Of course, other players might surface in that time and be better than him, but right now, that’s how it stands.
He is still young to achieve top world class striker, he has time on his side.
IMO, Lautaro is our second striker after Aguero, who’s NT days are numbered. at the moment, no doubt. but soon most likely will be our no.1

      • P.S. just for laughs :
in about 5 or 10 years time if we are still here, and Lautaro becomes highly influential in the NT, and I continue to defend him, I might be labeled as a FAKE ‘Argentina supporter’ and ‘Lautaro Martinez Fan boy’ 🙂

        • He plays below his talent level there, but imo we overrate him little bit in ARG yersey too. Scored against Iraq, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Qatar, Venezuela and horribly defending Mexico (3 goals were after big individual errors), not a single strong team. Friendlies against Germany and Brazil will be the big test for Lautaro.

          • Alot of us on this board don’t over or underrate anyone, we tend to judge on what we see rather than what team someone is playing for.
Lautaro has excelled for Argnetina, he was excellent in copa and an official tournament is a good way to separate the capable players from the not. Also not all his 3 goals for mexico were due to errors, the first one was pure class, while his second was an excellent off the ball movement from an excellent palacios pass and the 3rd was him pouncing on a defensive error, hence he deserves more credit than ‘all his goals were a result of defensive errors’.
One thing is certain, no player will ever be a ‘savior’ for the NT no matter the form or talent, that mentality has to disappear if Argentina is to accomplish anything.

          • First good to see you post again
            Mamoun:
“One thing is certain, no player will ever be a ‘savior’ for the NT no matter the form or talent, that mentality has to disappear if Argentina is to accomplish anything”

100% I agree Argentina has to move on
From to be soly rely on individual flashes
Having said that I believe scaloni just
Doing that they re building a team
But the problem is when messi and aguero come to the team all that thing will be out Of the window…

          • “but imo we overrate him little bit in ARG yersey too. ”

maybe some, a little bit, but not extensively overrating, as this guy has undeniable talent. I think ‘over-expecting’ would be a better description than overrating, and that is absolutely normal for fans to ‘expect’ the best from their players.
As it stands now, he is an integral part of the NT. it is a current FACT, we all hope that he will grow and grow to be among the TOP strikers in the world, I expect that to be very soon if he keeps his head up and focus on the future.
So far he handled himself fine, he refused Real Madrid in 2015 even when Racing reached a deal with RM.
in 2017 he underwent a medical with Atletico Madrid, but he renewed his contract and Racing increased his released clause. he did not rush himself into big clubs and chose to stay with racing. smart move. Now his release clause is above 100 million.
For all of the above, I expect him to be among the top in the world.

          • “One thing is certain, no player will ever be a ‘savior’ for the NT no matter the form or talent, that mentality has to disappear if Argentina is to accomplish anything.”

I am really lost, where did the term ‘savior’ come from?

    • Csabalala, aren’t you overly negative? When Martinez allegedly has a terrible game (which he didn’t, he was ok) you claim that he sucks even though by and large he performs well for the NT. When Tagliafico plays really well for Ajax it’s not good enough for you either because he supposedly sucks for the NT. It seems like damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation with you all the time.

      • No disrespect mate
But I don’t think csabalala is ok
No human being can be that
        Negative continuously even if the
Person hate .. your inner inside you
tells you have to be fair .especially to
Young players like lo celso foyth
        Lautaro Ascacibar list goes on
They still growing its unfair to charge
        Them for few games .
And the worst thing is he claiming
        He support their nt.
        I believe mr csabalala Desperately
Wanted see so call golden generation
Of Argentina to win trophy like everyone of us do. but him that took him way to extreme
To be one sided.. I think csabalala was very frustrated for Argentina not winning
Last few finals … but that goes every
        Arg supporter we all suffered…
        I couldn’t bear watch when
The player’s were crying seriously it hurted me but that is life we have to move on
And be optimistic in the future hope
Better things will come insha Allah.

        • I am pretty sure scabalala is argentina hater .he likes old guards because bthey didn’t achieved anything and he wants them to continue because he don’t like our new players coming and building a new team because he is fearing another emergance of a dedicated argentina team and by sticking still with aguero and dimaria he wants argentina youth maximum un noticed.but its only in his dreams.he is I think a brazil or ueropean supporter

    • “vs Germany Di Maria and Aguero is a must, in 14 we won easily with them”

In 2014 we won easily with them. Well known syndrom frweshly baked World Champion, relaxed, satieted, drunked with triumph that underestimate his opponent. So was after 2010 WC, We crushed Spain 4:1. THese are our “WC finals”.

I hear from you that we need to work on chemistry and keep same formation instead call new players still. So why you talk about Di Maria now when he does not seem to be part of this project?

      • Yes and in 2012 too (1-3) LOL idiot, again ARG won last 7 friendlies vs Germany so no excuses for the youngsters, this is their time to show finally something. Germany are in the same rebuilding phase than ARG.

        • Answer for this

I heard from you that we need to work on chemistry and keep same formation instead call new players still. So why you talk about Di Maria now when he does not seem to be part of this project?

          Double standards?

        • Yes, Di Maria is no brainer for another COpa. Finally he had tremendous Copa just few months ago. Benched after 45 minutes of first game and never more starter (while we looked better and better in the tournament after first game). Will he be so much good on upcoming Copa too?!!! LOL

His case is opposite to Lautaro: shine for club and not for NT means nothing for us. So Lautaro -yes, Di Maria -not.

        • So you dream about forward line with Messi – Aguero – Di Maria. 33,32,32 next year. Good to hear. If you dream about that just little reminder: so was our attacking line against Colombia in Copa America, idiot (0:2).

          • Yes vs Columbia was 0:0 with this trio, than brilliant goal and assist machine player of the tournament De Paul in (LOL) and 0:2 in the second half. Interesting…better and better? Messi step back in deep lying playmaker role cause our midfield was unable to pass the ball to the forwards and Aguero-Lautaro duo built some chemistry…better and better LOL…zero team play, zero passing patterns, counter attacking schemes or good build ups

      • “I hear from you that we need to work on chemistry and keep same formation instead call new players still. ” Di Maria and Aguero as new players LOL, they are our best and no brainer Copa players for Scaloni, he finds their subs now.

        • I’m not talking about AGuero but Di Maria. Why you want him in the team if you claimed Scaloni being idiot for not continuing with same team. Now you want to call again Di Maria. This is hipocrisy and double standards from you.

    • Both were amazing players and football legends that many football fans keep remembering them. In terms of success, Zizou was more successfull than Riquelme, but when it comes to football skills they almost had the same skills (vision, dribbling, passing, free-kicks etc). Riquelme wasn’t a pacy player, but Zidane was good at running although he wasn’t that fast either.

Carlos Valderrama, Gheorghe Hagi, Zidane, Rui Costa, Pavel Nedved, Roberto Baggio, Edgar Davids, Dennis Bergkamp, Gaizka Mendieta, Ronaldinho, Paolo Maldini, and George Weah were my favourite non-Argentine players.

  9. ……..ascasibar……….
    Di paul……lo celso……palacios

Best we have…….But they are young and unproved…..can they handle midfield role well for strong opponent with experienced players???

  10. Exequiel Palacios vs Huracan (plus Casco and some good River combinations) very good passing, and retention dribbling, he seems good against pressure like Paredes (finds the correct passing options quickly under pressure+retention dribbling) 3-4 great through balls, he tends to make these killer balls very often.

    youtube.com/watch?v=0ziABBem4vc

    River-Velez will be interesting.

    • Palacios yet during U-20 WC in 2017 showed passer talent but this rudimental ability is burnished by Gallardo. He is instructing his players to play quick one-two passes as well such through balls. I heard that from Palacios and I heard that from Ferreira. Both are material for our future NT stars.

River – Velez is match of the round no doubt. Now Heinze’s team seems to be on right track having 3 wins in a row

  11. Ascacibar is on the way to step back?

“Playing for Stuttgart since 2017/18, Argentinian U23 international deep-lying midfielder Santiago Ascacibar (22), according to Kicker, is getting closer and closer to join home club of his Estudiantes de La Plata back. Previously linked to Real Betis Sevilla, Fiorentina, and Genoa, the 1997-born is currently on a deal with out-of-grace German club until June 2023.”

“I consider Ascacibar as Paredes alternative against strongest opponents. However he often link with attaccking players so good, being so ubiquitous, that I see in him material for box-to-box midfielder as well.”

Why? A good box to box midfielder score a lot assist a lot, can dribble, the exact opposite of Ascacibar besides full time running and defending, we must to hide his weaknesses not strengten these, DM the only position with his charasteristic.

    • “A good box to box midfielder score a lot assist a lot”

Ascacibar so far never played as box-to-box to have the a lot of assist. It’s just hepothesis he could be good one. And that is not true good box-to-box have tons of assists. That’s not so easy. Look at De Paul or Lo Celso in NT. They are good box-to-box midfielders but still problem wtih assists. Maybe Palacios will be better on this. Still I can’t say a bad word about De Paul missing something as box-to-box.

    • No matter he will back to Estudiantes or not. He is NT material and I belive Ascacibar will got sooner or later another chances both in NT as solid European club of first division.

    • I think it isn’t over for him……but I don’t understand why people here are so obsessed with him…

He has a potential to become a good DM but he is not right now…….he can’t even be a competitor to a bench warmer like paredes ……how is he a good player??
Paredes is miles better than him . However, the only problem with paredes is that he is not playing consistently.

  12. Guys, I will share my thoughts. We cannot just keep calling people just because one had a one good game. Examples that frustrate me

    1. Dimaria should be back because he had a great game against Real. To me it seems like he needs motivations and clear directions from the manager to perform at top level. Somehow that does not happen with NT.
    2. Buendia had one upset over Man city. Remember, its called an upset for a reason. If they play 10 times, 9 times city will win.
    3. Rojo should be back because he had great curler at 75th min of a game.

Scaloni need to find a system. A clear idea to play as a team. How to defend and how to attack. Then have 2 players for each position that fits that strategy and idea. I am not sure Scaloni have done that, even afert 11-12 matches.

Scaloni and team had a good Copa, since the expectations were too low. Now he has to get to a position where we can be confident about our performances getting into a tournament. We also have to acknowledge that we got a lucky run in the copa.

If you ask me I don’t feel confident about us beating south american teams or any mid size European team. For example, I cannot say “yeah, we will definitely beat Ecuador or Sweden or Croatia”. We might win, but cannot say that confidently. As a power nation, with aspirations of winning tournaments, we should be able to say that confidently and then anything else happens, its an “upset”.

Scaloni should for a core group and solidify.

    • “For example, I cannot say “yeah, we will definitely beat Ecuador or Sweden or Croatia”. We might win, but cannot say that confidently. As a power nation, with aspirations of winning tournaments, we should be able to say that confidently and then anything else happens, its an “upset”.

I doubt is there now any team on the world who can be confident in this way going into tournament. Football level is going to be more and more even out. We are witnessing in recent times how WC champions often struggle to make another round of final stages in big tournaments – making it by one goal only or only after extra time (so was with us against Switzerland in 2014 just for instance). Many many examples like Germany against Algieria in 2014. No whipping boys in today’s football. Yes, 4:0 results still happen but this is rather something unpredictable.

Yes, that is true we can’t be still confident about performances of our NT but I can see regular progress. Scaloni has still less question marks in his starting eleven, with this we could see constant progress in chemistry.

    • “Scaloni should for a core group and solidify.”

I think there are two different questions. (1) What is scaloni’s core group. (2) Can this core group win. But does scaloni have no core group? IMO, I think he has already identified 70% of his core group whether or not people like the choices.

it seems clear the three goalkeepers currently are probably around for at least 12 months barring injury or loss of form. aguero and lautaro will battle for single nine whenever he does not play with two on top. messi is messi so there are no replacements, but him and dybala will take care of the wide right to inside right/middle responsibilities. The core of the midfield will be paredes/de paul/locelso/palacios. Here it looks like locelso and palacios are alternates. depaul’s replacement is not fully clear but seems like macallister and dominguez will possibly battle this one. paredes sub at the moment is guido for scaloni.
In the rear, left back is locked in and seems like otamendi will also be relied on at lcb for at least another 12 months or so. at the risk of him turning into saravia, montiel will be RB and foyth will battle here. next friendly we will see if there are more sub options here. the rcb is not completely clear as well but seems quarta and pezella are in the battle here.

So to summarize, the missing 30% are wide left/left forward roles, appropriate full back subs and clearness in CB pair. Some of this is not new, but can anyone really say someone deserving has not really been called in these open spots. Most logical players both young and old have been tried.

its definitely been slow but the biggest problem is we can barely ever practice with our A team. If messi/aguero are not missing, the river/boca boys are, or its injury. hell, we’ll probably end up playing against germany with our C team (i am doubting even otamendi will be called given ManCity defense injuries)

  13. Still the Vargas’ positions on the pitch are strange and rather not those which from he can benefit more: RM, AM sometimes almost like second striker. Just let him play LW inverted winger to get launch his right foot curled balls.

    • Sooner or later he will be there. Next month maybe again for Batista’s U-23 team (if they will play friendlies too).

I consider Ascacibar as Paredes alternative against strongest opponents. However he often link with attaccking players so good, being so ubiquitous, that I see in him material for box-to-box midfielder as well.

    • Ascacibar is NT material for sure, very strong defensively, great reading of the game (explains his high number of interceptions), very athletic and is an underrated passer (sharp, accurate passing). His only weakness is his high temperament, which can get the better of him as we saw last season with his 6 match ban for spitting on another player, but he’s only 22 and can iron those childish traits out not to mention that temperament can be good sometimes when you’re fighting for every inch.
Between him, paredes, palacios and Nico dominguez, I think Argentina maybe sorted when it comes to CMs.

      • Yes, I can see how he is growing as passer. He is not born-to-pass player like Paredes but the progress is visible for someone who’s tracking his carreer since very first game for Estudiantes. Now it’s at least on decent level.

        • Yeah sharp crisp passes going forward, which is what is needed. Nico Dominguez and Foyth can also play the 5 role but the former is becoming more and more b-2-b and might end up more of a De Paul backup than a 5 while Foyth needs to work hard to control those injuries of his that are becoming a habit (also missed weeks at the beginning of the season last year) and needs to book a starting place at spurs first before thinking about becoming a regular NT player.
