Argentina FA to appeal FIFA’s suspension decisions on suspended match vs. Brazil

Claudio Tapia, the president of the Argentina FA has stated that they will be appealing FIFA’s decision.

The World Cup qualifying match between Argentina and Brazil from last year was stopped after five minutes. FIFA announced on Monday that both FA’s will be fined and four Argentine players who were all based in the Premier League would be suspended for two games each.

Tapia tweeted out that he promises he will do all of the necessary efforts and he will appeal FIFA’s decision.

  1. Messi did not missed the penalty, it is Courtois who saved the PK. Yes, Messi should give it to Mbappe instead of taking himself. And, yes Messi is not the same as with Barca; his form seems not so fit and fresh but he will soon rise again and be back although can’t passed three players but the passing and his vision is better and mature nowadays. Legs will follow the age.

    PSG will pass the test against Nadrid. Poche has some improvement although his subs on Neymar little bit late. Parades is excellent in the mid field, fighting with Casemiro.

  2. I moment I saw Messi talking the penalty I dreaded the outcome. One thing for sure, he was never a good penalty taker. Especially in big games against big opponents. Luckily he has done well for NT.

    He doesn’t have the legs anymore. I liked today’s PSG. Messi is more free to roam. Mbappe is quite selfish.

    Like some said below, hope this is the bottom. Let it get better from here.

  3. It really hurts to see Messi not getting help from anyone or anything and even his bad luck is getting worse!! He is more mentally drain than physically and also hasn’t been the same player since that tackle he received against Venezuela. Hopefully this is the bottom and he will come back stronger!!

  4. DIDN’T watch the game but saw the pk stop. Not miss,, the GK just happened to block it and that happens in the world of football.
    Messi has not been comfortable ever since his move to PSG, he was fine in the summer, wait GREAT is what he was and fine with Barcelona before that and now all of a sudden he can’t hack it anymore, give me break.
    Like I said before, he doesn’t have to carry the club on his back and that’s exactly what WE WANT.

  5. For those of us who think Messi’s good days are behind him, I think you are not right. His performance vs Madrid was a mixed one and he was the reason why Madrid players were sitting in defense. Leo is still adopting to the club and it’s very normal that his stats with PSG are nowhere near his numbers with Barca.

    In 2018/19 season during the 1st leg of the knock-out games of the CL while I was watching Bayern vs Real Madrid I thought Lewandowski was finished and useless. To me, he looked very bad in all footballing aspects, but he proved me wrong and returned with a bang. Bayern was going through difficult period which made Lewa look clueless. Messi is in the same situation right now, but it will end very soon.

    La Pulga is still the BEST player in the world.

  7. Real was just sitting back and waiting for the counter. Just look when Messi gets the ball reals half were filled with more players. Then also Messi created some killer passes which he usually does. But yeah that penalty might had effected him. Neymar played good. Paredes also did his job. But not testing due to the defensive strategy of real. 2nd leg would be a real test for him. Yeah the 2nd leg seems to be interesting as what strategy will be taken by real.

          • Yes you are right dybala is being wasted in the NT. But put one thing in mind, Messi is once in a life time player. We must utilise it in the full extent. Messi is ready to give his soul for the NT. They can’t be played together. It affects the team badly in many ways.

    • Messi has been the best in the world for 16 years, but those days are over. Mbappe, DeBruyne, Salah nowadays have a bigger impact on the game. With so much loss of posession today he should not have taken the penalty.

      Fingers crossed he can return to form at the end of the year.

      • OK PSG Messi is nowhere near the best in the world I agree, but Argentina’s Messi in Copa America 2021 is ballon d’or calibre, no one comes close to him in the entire world. It is too early to say that Messi has passed his best, let’s see how he performs for Argentina if he is more similar to PSG Messi or Argentina’s Messi.

        If he still produces something similar to his Copa America performance then he is still at his peak. No doubt.

  10. Messi has created couple of really good chances but Mbappe has failed to capitalize on them. Also, Messi not receiving the back passes is frustrating!! Messi needs to play a bit selfish and go for the goal himself like Mbappe and Dimaria .

    • Mbappe wants to be a hero. Selfish guy, wont win UCL with this attitude even at RM. Even C. Ronaldo had to became unselfish and cry until he won UCL with RM.

    i speak about fifa and the world cup that aproaching. it is my idea or i am crazy that exist many similarities and strange decitions that remind 2002 world cup in Korea? in place of Brasil we should put……again Brasil and in place of Korea this time Qatar.
    for all those are young age and don t remember in 2002 world cup we had crimes against the sport of football and uncover favoritism without shame for Korea and Brasil.
    fifa is a corrupted mafia organization anyhow and Infantino is not any better person in my eyes than Blatter.

  13. Apart from the 2 match suspensions, non of this surprises me! But you know what, I think this is a good thing! This will force Scaloni to experiment a bit further.
    Cuti was absent and Licha proved to be a very worthy sub (something that we all already knew). De Paul and Paredes were suspended against Colombia but it wasn’t even remotely a problem because Guido and Papu filled in for them.
    Lio didn’t play against either Chile or Colombia but Fideo showed that he can carry the torch if the boss ain’t around.
    Now with Dibu, Cuti and Celso all absent we will get to see What Musso can do, not to mention that Licha and Papu will get another chance to show what they’ve got especially against an inform Ecuador at altitude.

    1) ARG – Falsifying Federal Travel Declarations
    Four players were accused of falsifying Brazilian coronavirus declarations in September by not stating they had been in red-listed Britain in the previous 14 days, leading to the game being stopped after seven minutesEmiliano Buendía, Emiliano Martínez, Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero will serve two-match bans in FIFA fixtures after “not complying with the FIFA Return to Football International Match Protocol,” the world governing body said in a disciplinary ruling.

    2) ARG – Order and Security
    The Argentinian Football Association was fined 250,000 Swiss francs ($270,000) for failing to “comply with its obligations in relation to order and security, the preparation of and its participation in the match”, and the abandonment.

    3) BRA – Shit handling of Security
    FIFA ordered the Brazilian Football Association to pay a fine of 550,000 Swiss francs (about $600,000) for “infringements related to order and security,” and over the abandonment.

    #1 crosses into territory that can carry serious federal charges. I’m not surprised, also less forgiving during covid with all the travel restrictions and hyper sensitivity.
    #2 i need to read the details but if AFA stonewalled anything then they are not guilt free.
    #3 given the insanity of waiting 5 min after whistle, they turned it into a complete circus. Fine should be way higher or auto points deducted. Pure insanity.

      There is something wrong with this. I’m worried about how they will fix us into the group stages. We will most likely get the best out of Africa, Algeria, Morocco or Senegal. And most likely get Holland from Europe and probably Japan. I’m not worried about these teams. I’m just predicting how hard they will purposely make it for Argentina. The Argentina back end office needs to be sharp and prepared for any circus moves.

  15. Look for the positive side; don’t bother with the rematch. Arg need it to try alternative players before the real tournament WC. The main target is WC – not to win against the Yellow on this rematch. I do believe that Tite will used it as a friendly match and “try out” before going to Qatar. It’s far better than have a friendly match with Haiti or Honduras.

    AFA and Tapia should find and arrange a good friendly match against European and African Team, game against Italy is suitable to prepare the team and knows the strength and weakness

    Here comes a long post…

    Disgraceful from FIFA and Brazil… Really no shame lol. I bet they are using the ~700k € to compensate all the Brazilian fans who spent time and money traveling to support their team last September only to see the match suspended after 5 minutes!

    We as fans should not play it off as “no big deal” because it is a big deal when FIFA, the highest governing body of football, holds favouritism for one country. It’s corruption. I really hope Tapia does everything possible and manages to lift the nonsensical suspensions.

    As I understand, Brazil FA (CBF) fined around 500k € and AFA fined around 200k €
    And 3 of our core players, starters, suspended from 2 matches against Venezuela and Ecuador over SIX MONTHS after the incident?? Against opponents that aren’t even Brazil, when we are already qualified? It should make you question why

    Why are the players being punished NOW when FIFA, CBF, CONMEBOL, AFA all were in agreement that the match would take place and everything was fine. It was Brazilian health authorities that invented a problem, stormed the pitch and suspended the match.
    FIFA gave green light in September, and now they are suspending our players for something they said was OK???????? Am I missing something?

    Here is a little thought… Our confidence is high after Copa. We are now 29 matches unbeaten, currently the best streak in international football. If we win/draw Venezuela and Ecuador, we equal Argentina’s previous record of 31. If (big if!) we end up winning/drawing against Italy, Brazil, Portugal, Belgium and Denmark and we continue our unbeaten run, we are at 36. This means we could break Italy’s historical record of 37 in the group stage of the World Cup! This would be a huge advantage for us in terms of confidence going into the tournament. And something tells me the lovebirds FIFA and Brazil don’t want this on the table… Hence taking the opportunity of suspending core players in hope of us losing at 2800m altitude in Quito before we start equalling/breaking records… The suspension also slows down the imminent chemistry build-up of Romero and Lisandro as CB pair before WC, as well as the implimentation of Buendia as key sub…

    Or maybe I am just looking into it way too much and being conspiratorial here haha

  18. Well, if it’s just two matches I would assume that means that we can use these players on the Brazil match, which is my biggest concern. I am glad Lisandro will have another chance to shine although I partly wish it was Otamendi making room for him rather than Romero. I guess Musso will play and we have several options to replace Lo Celso. I am disappointed but not surprised, Brazil remains CONMEBOL’s favorite child. This seems really counterproductive on their part considering one would expect that CONMEBOL wants the best out of its teams meaning they would let core players be part of the squad before the World Cup so SA representation is better. I am mostly disappointed about Romero since that makes it two sets of qualifiers without him, I hope either Tapia stands up and does his part or that nothing happens to Romero before the friendlies because he will barely be getting game time before the WC.

    • Amit, you asked about Girotti a couple of days ago.

      A week ago Talleres bought him for 2 million for 50% of his rights. It’s not that he had a drop off because he dropped his form for River or was playing badly, he simply does not fit Gallardo’s system with what he wants in a #9. Girotti is a classic #9 and also nicknamed the “tank”. When Alvarez exploded and we brought in Romero, he stopped getting minutes and that was that. I still think he has what it takes to score goals in the first division and am curious to see how many he will net. I also think it is a good sign that Talleres want him because personally I am very interested how that club has been running for the past few years. They have a unique system of bringing in relatively unknown players or talented players not getting a chance and selling them on. Examples are a young Ecuadorian international Hincapie who was sold to Leverkusen this year, Facundo Medina who was part of River’s reserve team and is now killing it in France, Payero who they on loan from Banfield seemingly before Banfield realized how good he was, recently sold a right back Tenaglia to Alaves, sold Bustos to City/Girona, Pavon and Reynoso to Boca, currently have Valoyes (recently made a debut for Colombia against us) and Enzo Diaz, and some other players they’ve sold you may not know include Andres Cubas, Tomas Pochettino, Federico Navarro, Juan Ramirez, and Lucas Olaza. I hope that Girotti represents this line of interesting talent that Talleres are finding and selling, hopefully they can move him on to Europe in a couple of years since he already had interest from Basel and Willem II of Holland.

        Very excited to see the River squad this year especially in attack & midfield. Inspite of the Union surprise, Gallardo has the extra bench to target a double or triple this year. Heard Castenallos is also being attempted to derisk Alavrez July movement.

      • It is a big deal indeed. But Brazil being fifa’s favourites is not something new. We were kids where we first witnessed that in 94 where the whole thing started from wc 90, as you have stated correctly in the past my friend. The favouritism that the yellow team has been being enjoyed by the corrupted enhancement of fifa throughout the years, is disgraceful to say the least.

        But let me remind you all, one of the major reasons why our beloved team is so special in comparison to the yellow team. It is not only that Argentina had the two greatest players of all time, Diego and Lio. It is not only that Argentina is well known for its beautiful football and that it gave so much to football.   23. Fifa is trash. Always has been. They never have liked Argentina. Partly because Argentina is one of the few countries that has had players speak against them.
    No matter, we still qualify. But it’s a sad reminder about the reality of fifa.
    The Brazil doctor should be suspended. Also, the entire Brazil committee that allowed out players in and then made a problem should be suspended.
    Also I must say, the Brazilian head coach is trash. He is a trash bucket that is lucky to have a good team.

  24. so we are punished in end. very nice justice. i see. fifa is one very clear organization full of justice. personally i trust them so much. they are synonym of fair play. so we are guilty. so the 4 players are guilty. so i guess those 4 players get inside pitch by themselves. they start play the game by themselves with use force against refferees and game directors of fifa. they enter in Brasil by force. plus we use the Argentine army to land the plane and drive them from airport to hotel and all around the places. training pitch the stadium to play etc
    the poor Brasil officials succeed to overpass the Argentine army ONLY after the game start.
    i want to express my sympathy to Brasil people. my sincere apology for all those things they suffer.

      • while your questions have not simple answers i will try to say you simple just only the root. fifa means money or better BIG MONEY. Brasil is export country. Argentina too. i am speaking about football. don t misunderstand me. Brasil have more than 210 million people population while we are 45 million people. so in market terms money difference is huge. in same time Brasil is the fifa s big brand name of football from middle 70 s when the sport of football enter in proffesional era from amateur era. to say simple when the sport of football coded Brasil had the numbers and the luck to be in prime. on the other side we was to say simple in some of the most shitty years of our history. not only in football. ABOUT EVERYTHING.
        then it was builded the myth of the “mighty Brasil”.

        • I read a book on Argentinian football, Angels With Dirty Faces: The Footballing History of Argentina, book by Jonathan Wilson. Don’t know how much is true and how much is fictitious but very intriguing read. So, whatever you are saying is correct IMO. But, we denied all odds on 78, 86, this time in Copa. Hopefully – we need adversity to trigger our argentinian boys… Let’s see… 😊😊

  25. With Lo Celso, Romero and Martinez suspended for 2 games, can we not count both the qualifiers as them being out of? Surely those are the 1s to sacrifice than the big game against Italy. Having a full squad available against the Italians will give us a good indication as to where we are.
