Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni is set to start four players in midfield against Algeria at the World Cup.
Lionel Scaloni could be going with four in midfield. According to Gastón Edul, Scaloni is set to start Rodrigo De Paul, Enzo Fernández, Alexis Mac Allister and Thiago Almada against Algeria.

I saw the game of Paraguay today and it got me worried. This is the same Paraguay that beat Argentina 2-1 and Brazil 1-0 in their home ground. The way USA dominated them in the first half and got a 3-0 lead made me a bit less confident about our team. Thankfully, the second half was more even.
In particular South Korea, USA and Canada played very high energy and fast pressing game for almost the full 90 minutes. These teams were impressive. They may not be technically and strategically very refined, but they are here with the intent and energy to go far.
Is it a coincidence or is FIFA trying to make it hard for Argentina?
Only 4/12 groups(D,G,I,J) have 3 teams ranked in top 30. Argentina is in one of them.
Only 4/12 groups(C,F,H,J) are placed so that the group topper is not playing a 3rd in group but a 2nd in group, and 2nd in group is not playing another 2nd in group but a group topper. Argentina is in one of them.
Not sure about Jordan, but Algeria and Austria are formidable teams. Algeria beat Netherlands in their last fixture, and Austria are 4 wins and 1 draw in their last 5 games.
And I am still not sure how exactly the top 8 3rd placed teams in group stage are placed in a knockout bracket. What is the basis and mechanism for their placement?
Some people are over worried about Full Back Situation.
I know 2018 is far from a good reference. But we had Mercado & Salvio to cover RB. LB wasn’t much better either, though Tagliafico stepped up.
Even in 2014, Rojo was not at all convincing before the WC. Same goes for Zabaleta also. But both of them over Performed in the World Cup. I am not going to 2010 Madness.
My point is, Fullbacks were always our weakest points on paper. And then also there were the likes of Yamal and Olise who on paper was poised to humilate our fullbacks. (And they made the damage in 2018).
But 2026 is not 2018, our right and left side of Midfield is solid. Our Central Midfield is better than ever.
I don’t think there is any point in Panicking now. Let the game starts. Let them show what they can do with much much lower pressure (in many decades). Scaloni has good pool of players to do any patch works if found during the campaign.
In 2014, Zabaleta came to the WC after finishing as one of the best RB in the preceding EPL season.
This is going to be a world cup would require different sort of predicition on how it will turn out to be be. 8 3rd best teams will make the next round. Some teams might want to play defensively against group favorites to score a point, or not concede a lot of goals because in the end, 8 3rd best teams will qualify based on point accumulation, Goals scored or conceded and so on.
Also, we never had a world cup of 48 teams. I think it will be tough to predict route to final for any teams because of this extra round. A very interesting and different sets of strategies and player management will emerge. The team that will do this will win. Paper favorites might not.
my team for algaria match…
———————–EMI———————————
Monila…Romero…..lisandro…Nico/Barco
———————–Palacios……………………..
Simeone/celso/Paz…..Alister……..Enzo…
……………..Messsi……….Alvarez/Martinez………..
Attach is the best defence… young and energatic team excepts messi and emi..
Molina, Barco and Simeone means complete domination against any team.
Every thing is ok but I’m not satisfied with Montiel and Nico Gonzalez
First of all both are not fully fit and both have got enough chance still could not prove themselves. It’s a shame that no new talent was reproduced in last 6-7 years who can replace them. I understand scaloni don’t want to break winning spirit but taking this two players are liability.
What is the condition of Molina and Paredes? Are they available for first match?
Dont believe in any lineup that’s coming out before match start. Scaloni keep that secret every time. Just look at last match. Even the last moment media was telling different lineup than actually started.
I don’t think Scaloni will change Enzo-Mac-Depaul midfield.
Almada IN means, that’s a 3 man attacking…
Barco IN means..that’s a 4 man midfield..but attacking…
Palacios IN means that’s a 4 man midfield defensive…
I don’t think Almada Deserves a starting spot ahead of Lo Celso or Barco. Especially Barco for that Position
your thought just like me. I also support Lo Celso or Barco in left side.
good idea . Paz will be messi’s sub and Guiliano for de paul . Hopefully Barco will perform well. Why not starting him as LB ? Personally i didnt like medina vs iceland . But we dont have any other options as well. Hopefully Medina will show us a miracle and proof us wrong
He was not impressive in LB position, so the current club coach transformed him into a midfielder. There he succeeded. He has all the skills. He is developing into a world class midfielder.
Bro ik he is becoming a world class DM. Barco is a versatile player. Hopefully Medina will surprise us .
He is going for the strong hold- control in the game. Algeria would try to be fast but I guess slowing them down would be a good option. I think its safe to play 4 midfield to kick start the tournament. Scaloni not taking any chances this time around. I am sure he will change according to the opponents and necessities during the different stages of the tournament. I trust him. He is the best.
I don’t know where this news came from. Only thing on TyC sports is that Scaloni said his team is are in good shape on time ahead of the cup.
Trust in Scaloni and get on the Scaloneta Express.
Good to see you shovwar.
