  1. Next year his real season starts. Hopefully does get integrated to the system whosoever takes charge. Then there is AFA, only coaching staff cannot do enough..need to participate against European or strong African nations more often to keep the level up and measure where they are. Not playing Finalissima was the biggest blunder, a loss 3 months back could have put some urgency and possible workable changes. Its past now, heart breaking to see Messi’s farewell to the spectators..but every reign has to end at some point. A very deserving and humble group of players got their Star this time.

    • Lots of ifs and buts, but this team was based on character and chemistry hence Scaloni tends to keep it same. If our team would have taken leads in previous matches, then the new set of players would have got game time and primary XI would have got much needed rest, but not to be. Anyways, this set of folks have given lot of joy to us and deserve applause. And it’s great to see the next batch getting ready for the occasion.

  2. I’m sorry, you can’t compare Scaloni misuse of Paz and Barco to Pekerman’s decision. At that time Messi was still younger than Paz and Barco and hasn’t established himself yet at club level whereas Paz and Barco came from a successful season, each was leading his own club. The comparison was different. Scaloni stuck with his buddies so they can earn salary of playing time, more exposure to media could raise their price tag, and mainly because they are the core members of the club. Let’s be honest here.

    • Come on, that’s not true why paredes not start than if he was favouring certain players. Scaloni went for experience but messed up on the game approach. He didn’t watch the Spain vs France semifinal it seems. He wanted to replicate what France did but without having one-tenth of the pace in our frontline that French wingers have. He should have turned into a midfield battle and use Messi’s playmaking ability to playthrough if our midfielders couldn’t get the ball out. Instead he set up argentina in a counter attack placing messi in centre and without Paredes that was a death nail. Macalister couldn’t handle rodri at all in the first half. When parades came he took out nico Gonzalez leaving tagliafico alone on that left flank. You saw in the second half how lamine grew into the game. That, was the worst tactical decision he took in the match. Uff. It’s so painful. Seeing the horror show. And the referee was claerly biased against us. De la fuente got into scalonis head it seems to me. Doing fanatics fest DLF softened up us. Then came laporte comments on the referee. It was all planned

  3. Love to see Placente for next coach, there is always a first thing of something. Hope Paz, Barco and other young talents given chance and trust them not only judged by 1 or 2 friendly match. Enzo and Mac not up to carry the team, their time has peak at 2022.

    • In my humble opinion, marcelo gallardo should be the next coach. He is a no nonsense approach to managing and is in the same age group as scaloni and his assistants. He can seamlessly fit into current coaching setup.

  4. The way the team lost hurts more than the loss itself.

Barco and Nico Paz were left on the bench reminded me of the way José Pekerman left a young Messi on the bench against Germany in the 2006 World Cup quarterfinal.

History seems to be repeating itself. Instead of trusting talented young players when the team needed energy, creativity, and fresh ideas, Argentina stuck with out of form players (Enzo and Mac). Barco and Paz could have provided the spark the midfield lacked, yet they barely got an opportunity.

I still think Scaloni should stay. I don’t see anyone better suited to rebuild this squad at the moment.

Diego Placente has done a solid job working with Argentina’s youth teams and knows many of the upcoming players, but he hasn’t yet won a major tournament at youth level or proven himself at senior international level.
