  1. Nico González and Julián Álvarez need to play roles similar to Baena and Dani Olmo did for Spain—leading the press, closing passing lanes, and forcing England’s midfield to play hurried passes instead of dictating the tempo. The objective shouldn’t just be to win the ball back, but to make England uncomfortable in possession from the very first whistle.

I’d also prefer Nico to come in for De Paul rather than Enzo. Enzo’s familiarity with many of England’s players through the Premier League could actually work in Argentina’s favour. He understands their tendencies and may relish the challenge against familiar opponents. Nico’s relentless work rate, on the other hand, makes him a better fit for the pressing role on the flank.

  2. have you guys seen this pattern or am I the only one: Nico Gonzalez is always the go to guy for Scaloni. Let’s start Nico, he didn’t do well so next game forced to bench him, Next idea is let’s start Nico again (the same with Almada). Lo Celso scored 2 goals and now he has vanished. Paz and Barco never play even as subs. If we lose believe me these kind of decisions will cost us.
I wasn’t worried after Cabo Verde or Egypt game. Yes we conceded but we fought, played and created chances and I thought Scaloni would correct the errors, but the game against Switzerland was lifeless, we didn’t fight, we didn’t create, we did nothing, we kinda gave up and the red card helped us to go through.
Let’s hope we do better because everybody wants us out. don’t give them this pleasure.

  3. Nico is a player of minimum skills he will run and loose the ball which will lead to counter attack , Argentina can’t stop counters of pacy players of England.
Why doesn’t scaloni start Barco or Lo celso in the left side.

  4. I would rather prefer to have RDP who can shield the RB and has that south american grit in him, than haveing Enzo who has been largely ineffective. There is literally no point in replacing RDP with Palacios who is kind of version 2 of RDP, where as if Simeone can start in place of RDP then the entire dynamic changes. Simeone is RW who can shield RB too.

  5. I was in such a state of tension, confusion and shock after the last match that I didn’t even feel like commenting after that. Of course, I was very happy in the end that we won, but also very concerned with the way we played during much of the normal time when Switzerland dominated majority of the normal time. In fact, Switzerland were dominating even till 5-10 minutes after the red card, after which we slowly started to regain control. Of course, we played very well in the extra time. During extra time we had 6 attackers(Lautaro, Lopez, Alvarez, Messi, Almada and Gonzalez), 1 connecting midfielder(Maca) and 3 defenders(Lisandro, Montiel and Otamendi). We essentially threw the kitchen sink at them.

So now I finally came back to comment before the big match against England. I am not even going to dissect that earlier match and give advices, even if I do have many ideas and suggestions. I just hope that we win. To me this match against England is even more of a final than the final, because if we win we are at least in the finals and Spain is the least dislikable opponent among the 3. However, if we lose we not only lose against old foes who will continue their annoying “coming home” slogans, but we also move on to 3rd place match against a team that we already beat last time. It will be pretty bad if we lose. On the other hand, if we win today I will say this world cup was at least a partial success for us.

So my only wish at the moment is that we should at least win this coming big game against England. Yes, we should play good football and win.

  6. I think scaloni have brain damage. Nico Gonzales is a bench warmer at Atletico when Simeone plays every game and perform one of the best for the team… I think this guy doesn’t care about form and select players based on nostalgia at this point
