Roberto Pereyra scores, Rodrigo de Paul assists for Udinese in 2-0 win vs. Sassuolo

Roberto Pereyra scored through a Rodrigo de Paul assist as Udinese would get the 2-0 win vs. Sassuolo.

In a match which could have ended in a draw, Pereyra would confirm the victory for Udinese with the help of de Paul. With Udinese leading 1-0, de Paul would receive the ball inside the penalty area as he would pass it to Pereyra and the Argentine would score in injury time to give Udinese the 2-0 win.

Pereyra is now on three goals and five assists in the league while de Paul has five goals and six assists.

Juan Musso would get his clean sheet win and Nahuel Molina would attribute to that as all four Argentine players took part in the entire match.

Joaquin Correa scores for Lazio in 3-1 loss vs. Juventus

Joaquin Correa scored Lazio’s only goal of the match in their 3-1 loss vs. Juventus.

Correa managed his third goal of the league season for Lazio. He would get to a loose ball, cut into the penalty area and shoot to his left to beat the goalkeeper to give Lazio the 1-0 lead.

He would be the only Argentine who would start the match as Gonzalo Escalante would be brought on as a substitute for Lazio while Mateo Musacchio remained on the bench. Still no Paulo Dybala for Juventus.

Adolfo Gaich scores first goal for Benevento in 1-1 draw vs. Spezia

Adolfo Gaich scored his first goal for his new club Benevento in their 1-1 draw vs. Spezia.

Gaich, who joined the club from CSKA Moscow in the January transfer window, has managed a goal in three appearances. The Argentine would receive the ball inside the penalty area as he would cut inside going passed the defender and his left footed shot would go through the goalkeeper at his near post to give Benevento the 1-0 lead.

Still only 22 years old, Gaich has represented Argentina at the U20 World Cup and helped the qualify for the 2021 Olympics. In addition, he has already been capped by the senior Argentina national team.

South American World Cup qualifiers for March suspended

It has been made official, the South American World Cup qualifying matches for the month of March have been suspended.

CONMEBOL announced through their official Twitter page that the qualifiers have once more been postponed. There was a meeting held on Friday between CONMEBOL and FIFA officials where there was discussion about possibly postponing the matches due to European COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Argentina were set to play both Uruguay and Brazil this month. No new dates have been announced.

Three Argentine local players used in South American World Cup qualifiers

Only three Argentine players based in South America have taken part in the 2022 South American World Cup qualifiers. Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has counted on Franco Armani, Eduardo Salvio and Gonzalo Montiel from the local league during the World Cup qualifiers and he may need to count on more for the month of March.

As we reported earlier, there was a meeting held on Friday between CONMEBOL and FIFA to discuss this month’s World Cup qualifiers. While it is still unclear if the matches will be played, Argentina did announce that they would accept to play their two matches vs. Uruguay and Brazil later this month without European based players.

Since the beginning of the South American qualifiers, Argentina have managed three wins and a draw in their first four matches. Wins to start vs. Ecuador and Bolivia while they managed a draw vs. Paraguay and a victory away vs. Peru. Franco Armani was the goalkeeper for all four of those matches while Gonzalo Montiel was a figure in the back line for the four matches as well. Eduardo Salvio, currently out with an ACL injury, only took part in the win vs. Ecuador.

Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada of Boca Juniors was an unused substitute while Gremio defender Walter Kannemann was also on the bench and did not play a minute with the team.

While goalkeeper Franco Armani is healthy, Gonzalo Montiel currently suffers from mononucleosis and his recovery remains unclear.
