Nicolas Tagliafico with a goal, assist for Ajax in Champions League

Nicolas Tagliafico had a goal and an assist for Ajax in their 3-0 win against Lille.

The Argentine cannot stop scoring. After scoring twice on the weekend against Heerenven, Tagliafico got his first in the Champions League for the season.

With the score at 0-0, the former Independiente man sent a cross into the penalty area which found the head of Promes to open the scoring. Ajax would score a second shortly after the break.

Tagliafico would get the third of the match. Ajax were awarded a corner kick and with the ball whipped into the area, the Argentina captain headed the ball into the net for the third goal of the game.

Walter Benitez, Juan Musso, Geronimo Rulli and Guido Herrera are on Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni’s radar.

Per a report by TyC Sports, Scaloni is looking at those four goalkeepers for the October friendly games. Esteban Andrada and Franco Armani, along with the rest of the Boca Juniors and River Plate players, will not be called-up for the Argentina squad in October due to the Copa Libertadores clash.

Walter Benitez has been in great form for Nice as the 26 year old will look to receive his first senior call. Juan Musso, still only 25, was part of the 2019 Copa America squad as he replaced Boca Juniors goalkeeper Esteban Andrada who had suffered an injury.

Geronimo Rulli has been in and out of the Argentina national team but now at new club Montpellier, the 27 year old will look to try and solidify a spot in the team. Guido Herrera of Talleres is also a new name being thrown around with 27 year old having never represented Argentina at any level. 

Agustin Marchesin will likely be called to the team as well. He was part of the Argentina setup for the month of September and was named the best goalkeeper of the Portuguese league for the month of August.

David Abraham of Eintracht could receive Argentina national team call

Argentina defender David Abraham of Eintracht could get called-up to the national team for the October friendly games.

Per a report by Fox Sports, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has been keeping tabs on the Eintracht defender. Argentina will play Germany in a friendly game in October and something which could play to Abraham’s advantage is that he presently plays in Germany.

David Abraham, 33 years old, was part of the Argentina U20 team which won the 2005 FIFA World Cup. He played alongside Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero who are presently both still part of the squad.

A total of 28 Argentine players will be taking part in the 2019-2020 UEFA Champions League tournament.

Tottenham Hotspur can claim to have the most Argentine players in their squad. With a total of four players and one coach all from Argentina. This year’s edition will also feature two Argentine coaches at the helm. Last season’s finalists Tottenham Hotspur coached by Mauricio Pochettino will finalists in previous years Atletico Madrid with Diego Simeoe will try to finally lift Europe’s biggest club trophy.

Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria are the only two Argentine’s out of the 28 which have lifted the Champions League trophy. Messi won it in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015 being the fourth time. Angel Di Maria was instrumental in Real Madrid winning it in 2014, his only time winning the tournament.

Group B has the most Argentine players with six in total. Group E is the only group in the entire tournament which does not have a single Argentine representative. The rest all have at least three. Here are the groups, teams and players.

Dario Benedetto with two goals for Olympique Marseille vs. Monaco

Dario Benedetto scored twice for Olympique Marseille in their 4-3 win vs. Marseille.

Benedetto brought his tally to four goals in five games for new club Marseille. With Monaco leading 2-0, Bendetto cut their lead in half. A low cross sent into the penalty area found the foot of Dario Benedetto and his left footed shot beat the goalkeeper.

With Marseille ultimately leading 3-2, Benedetto would double make it 4-2 as another left footed strike but more difficult than the first extended Marseille’s lead.
