Argentina and River Plate goalkeeper Franco Armani trained separately away from the rest of the Argentina team.

The starting goalkeeper for Lionel Scaloni’s team, Franco Armani is reported to have a problem in his adductor. Scaloni will likely have to count on either Agustin Marchesin or Esteban Andrade for the friendly games against Chile and Mexico.

Franco Cervi of Benfica rejects Boca Juniors move, rumored to go to Mexico

Franco Cervi rejected a move to Boca Juniors but is rumored to be joining a Mexican club.

Per several reports coming out of Argentina and Portugal, the Benfica man turned down the opportunity to join Boca Juniors. However, per a report by A Bola, Cervi could still leave Benfica but to go to a Mexican club.

The Mexican transfer market is still open and that could be where Cervi will be playing next. The report by A Bola does not mention a club but it is rumored that Cervi would accept to go play in the Mexican league.

 

Mauro Icardi joins PSG from Inter on loan

Mauro Icardi has left Inter and joined PSG on loan.

As anticipated, the former Inter captain has left his old club to join the French champions on a loan deal. Icardi joins for 5 million with PSG having the option to purchase for 65 million.

Icardi becomes the 16th Argentine to ever sign for the club and at 26 years old, is entering his prime. Speaking with PSG’s website, here’s what he had to say:

“I’d like to thank Paris Saint-Germain for the confidence they have shown in me. I will give everything to help my new team go as far as possible in all competitions. Paris Saint-Germain has become an international football powerhouse, attracting some of the greatest players in recent years.

“The momentum is strong in Paris, ambitions are high and I am sure that we have everything here to go even further. And I’m really looking forward to playing at the Parc des Princes, a stadium famous for its beauty and passion!”

Lautaro Martinez scored for Inter in their 2-1 win against Cagliari.

The Argentina man scored the opening goal but not without controversy. Lautaro headed the ball to give Inter the 1-0 lead but different replays showed that he may have been offside. The goal stood and Inter would go on to win the match.

Speaking to Inter TV after the game, here’s what he had to say:

“My first goal at San Siro also came against Cagliari, I’m happy with today’s goal but the most important thing is that we won, because getting a result against this team is never easy and winning also brings the confidence to continue the season in the best way possible.”

“Last season we played with a different system, I think that the team has more confidence playing with two strikers, there are more players in the opposition area and this is important because it creates so many more chances to score.”

Lionel Messi is a finalist for the Best Player and best goal, the Puskas, award.

Not for the first time and probably not for the last time in his illustrious career, Lionel Messi is a finalist for the Best Player award. Messi makes the top 3 alongside Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool and the Netherlands as well as Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus and Portugal.

Messi is also nominated for one more award. The Puskas award is given to the player with the best goal of the calendar year. Messi’s lovely rainbow chip goal for Barcelona vs. Real Betis is up against Juan Quintero’s free kick for River Plate vs. Racing Club and Daniel Zsori’s goal for Debrecen vs. Ferencvaros.
