Lionel Messi assists for Barcelona in win, holds two new records

Lionel Messi assisted once more for Barcelona, this time in their 1-0 win vs. Real Valladolid and he now holds another record.

The Argentina and Barcelona captain has now reached 20 assists this season, drawing him level with Xavi with the most assists in a single La Liga season after assisting Arthuro Vidal in the win. Xavi has held the record since the 2008-2009 season.

Messi is also on 22 goals this season and also draws level with Thierry Henry as the only players to have 20 or more goals and assists in a single season since the turn of the century.

South American World Cup qualifiers delayed until October

The South American World Cup qualifiers have been delayed until October.

Initially, the qualifiers were supposed to begin earlier this year in March but was postponed due to the pandemic. They were then delayed until September and today, FIFA, along with South America’s governing body CONMEBOL reached an agreement to postpone it until October, should conditions allow them.

Ever Banega scores free kick goal, assists for Sevilla in win vs. Athletic Bilbao

Ever Banega continues to impress as he scored a free kick and assisted one for Sevilla in their 2-1 win vs. Athletic Bilbao.

Banega, who will be leaving for Saudi Arabia at the end of the seaon, scored a great free kick for Sevilla to draw them level after Bilbao had taken the lead. The Argentina man would assist the winner, a great cross in to Munir who would head the ball into the net.

Rodrigo de Paul scored for Udinese in their 3-0 win vs. SPAL.

The Argentina man scored one from the outside of the penalty area to give Udinese the 1-0 lead. Despite being linked with clubs in Italy, the 26 year old doesn’t appear to be going anywhere and has now scored 6 goals and assisted five this season.

San Lorenzo accept bid for Argentina striker Adolfo Gaich from CSKA Moscow

Argentina national team striker Adolfo Gaich is reportedly close to joining CSKA Moscow.

Per a report by TyC Sports, San Lorenzo have accepted a bid of $12 million for the striker. Still only 21 years of age, Gaich was part of the U20 Argentina team which went to the World Cup last year and has also been capped for the senior national team.

Adolfo Gaich will sign a four year deal with the club.
