Lisandro MARTINEZ, Marcos ROJO rumored to make Argentina team, Angel DI MARIA out

Lisandro MARTINEZ, Marcos ROJO and others are rumored to make the Argentina national team list while the likes of Angel DI MARIA are likely to miss out.

Argentina have two friendly matches line-up for the month of September, both against familiar foes. One against Chile, the team which they defeated at the 2019 Copa America and the second against a long time rival, Mexico.

Coach Lionel SCALONI is expected to announce his list of players, which will vary from the one which made the Copa America, on Sunday or Monday. With a shortage of defenders due to injuries, Lisandro MARTINEZ, Walter MARTINEZ and Lucas Martinez QUARTA are all expected to make the Argentina National team for the two games.

One other defender which is being rumored is Manchester United defender Marcos ROJO. The former Estudiantes man has not played a single match for his country since the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Eduardo SALVIO of Boca Juniors who also has not played a single match since the World Cup is rumored to be making a return to the team. The likes of Angel DI MARIA and Matias SUAREZ, both who were part of the Copa America team will miss out.

Goalkeeper Esteban ANDRADA of Boca Juniors is set to be included as well.

Nicolas TAGLIAFICO scored for Ajax while Lisandro MARTINEZ had a standout performance in their 3-2 win against PAOK.

With the first leg ending 2-2, TAGLIAFICO managed the second goal in the victory and the tie which ended 5-4 in Ajax’s favor. With it being 1-1, a cross was sent into the area and TAGLIAFICO was the first to reach it as he headed it passed the goalkeeper and into the net.

There was another Argentine in the match who had a solid performance, that being newly signed Lisandro MARTINEZ. The defender was everywhere for Ajax.

 

Fernando BATISTA to coach Argentina U23 pre-Olympic team, Olympic games

Argentina U23 coach Fernando BATISTA is expected to coach the Argentina team during their Olympic qualification process as well as the Olympic games themselves, should they qualify.

Per a report by TyC Sports, the current coach will stay on to manage the team for the Olympic qualifiers which will take place between January 15 and February 2, 2020 in Colombia. BATISTA recently won gold with his team at the Pan American Games and took over the team from current Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI.

Crowned Olympic gold champions twice in 2004 and 2008, Argentina will be looking for their third gold medal.

 

Geronimo RULLI joins Ligue 1 club Montpellier on loan

Geronimo RULLI has put pen to paper and has joined Montpellier on loan from Real Sociedad.

RULLI has left Sociedad for the season and becomes the first non-French goalkeeper to be the number 1 for the club. Montpellier have announced that the Argentine will be their starting goalkeeper.

Argentina World Cup winner José Luis Brown passes away

Argentina World Cup winner José Luis “Tata” Brown has sadly passed away at the age of 62, on Monday.

News broke on Monday evening regarding his passing, with the official Argentina account tweeting it out as well as Argentina legend Gabriel Batistuta sending his condolences. Brown scored the opening goal of the 1986 FIFA World Cup while also hurting his arm.

It was reported months ago that Brown was battling Alzheimer’s with his daughter stating last month that his condition had worsened.
