Sergio AGUERO, Paulo DYBALA make preliminary Argentina Copa America team

Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI has announced his preliminary list of 36 players for the Copa America.

Sergio AGUERO, Paulo DYBALA as well as Mauro ICARDI are the big names in attack to feature for SCALONI. The final 23 will be announced on May 30 ahead of the tournament.

The initial list had 31 players but shortly after it was announced, SCALONI added Leonardo SIGALI, Gonzalo Pity MARTINEZ, Manuel LANZINI, Ignacio FERNANDEZ and Maxi MEZA to the squad.

Argentina U20 team win 3-1 against Villarreal B ahead of FIFA World Cup

In their first of two preparation matches before the U20 FIFA World Cup, Sergio BATISTA’s Argentina team won 3-1 against Villarreal B.

It’s one win out of won thus far for BATISTA’s boys but it wasn’t easy. Villarreal B took a 1-0 lead which was cancelled out by Atlanta United’s Ezequiel BARCO to make it 1-1 going into half time.

The second half saw Argentina add two more goals. Julian ALVAREZ and Pedro DE LA VEGA complete the comeback for the 3-1 win.

Argentina to announce preliminary Copa America list

Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI will announce his preliminary list for the Copa America on Wednesday.

With rumors surrounding potential names to be included, the preliminary list of 40 will be announced Wednesday where we will find out if the likes of Sergio AGUERO, Paulo DYBALA and others will have a chance of making the final cut. May 30 will see the announcement of the final list of 23 players.

Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI spoke about Mauro ZARATE and the Argentina national team.

Speaking in an interview with Super Deportivo Radio, the Argentina coach gave his thoughts on Boca’s Mauro ZARATE and more. Here’s what he had to say:

“It’s difficult to close the door on a player like that. I was his team mate at Lazio, he’s in important form, that he continues like this and we will take the decisions.”

In regards to possibly staying on as coach after the Copa America:

“The processus of long term planning falls to those who pay, if a process is cut due to a bad result, this is where the problem lies. Hopefully we continue.

“France were crowned world champions but two years prior had lost the finals of the Euro at home.”

Argentina, Chelsea goalkeeper Willy CABALLERO talks about FIFA World Cup disaster

Argentina goalkeeper Willy CABALLERO explained what happened and how he was told that he wasn’t going to play against Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, the Chelsea shot stopper commented on what had happened between himself and Argentina coach Jorge SAMPAOLI as well as Franco ARMANI. Following his mistake against Croatia, here’s what CABALLERO had to say:

“Jorge (SAMPAOLI) called me to give me explinations but I told him that he didn’t have to explain. That I understood and that tomorrow (against Nigeria) we had to win to stay in the World Cup and that’s the only thing that was important.”

CABALLERO also spoke about what he told goalkeeper ARMANI:

“I was rooming with Franco (ARMANI) and I told him ‘He (SAMPAOLI) called me to tell me that tomorrow you’re playing, give it your all, rest well and everything will go well tomorrow, we are all with you. And that’s how it was.

“The World Cup for me, personally and individually, ended there but I still had the hunger of being World champion. I didn’t care about me, the important thing was us.”
