South America’s governing football body CONMEBOL have sent an official request to FIFA in order to get the World Cup qualifiers suspended.

Shortly after Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni announced his list of players for this month’s qualifiers, rumors starter circulating that the matches for this month would be suspended. The corona virus has spread globally and has instilled travel bans across countries.

No confirnation yet by FIFA as to whether they will be suspended or not but all signs point to a delay in the start of the qualifiers.

The global epidemic has hit the football world. With leagues being suspended and with matches being played behind closed doors, TyC Sports has reported that the 2022 South American World Cup qualifiers will be suspended with confirmation expected later today.

Newcastle United extend Federico Fernandez contract

Newcastle announced that they have extended the contract of Federico Fernandez until the end of next season.

Fernandez joined the club in August 2018 from Swansea and at 31 years of age, has taken part in 25 matches this season scoring twice. Soeaking on the official Newcastle United website, here’s what coach Steve Bruce had to say:

“It’s really good news to get Fede tied up. He has had a great season and richly deserves this recognition.

“He is a great professional. He trains and works incredibly hard for the team and he continues to be a positive influence around the place. We’re delighted to have him.”

Federico has played 31 matches for the Argentina national team, scoring three times while also being part of the Argentina team which reached the 2014 World Cup final.

Lucas Alario injured, will miss Argentina World Cup qualifying matches

Lucas Alario has suffered an injury and will miss Argentina’s World Cup qualifying matches this month.

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni announced his list of players for this month’s World Cup qualifiers and Lucas Alario was included. However, the Bayer Leverkusen man suffered a dislocated shoulder and will be out for one month.

Alario will miss both games vs. Ecuador and Bolivia and it remains to be seen if Scaloni will call a replacement.

Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Alexis Mac Allister, Paulo Dybala in Argentina World Cup qualifying list

Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Paulo Dybala and many top names have been included in the Argentina squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers.

The road to the 2022 World Cup kicks off this month and Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has announced his squad for the two games. The two time world champions will play their first match against Ecuador on March 26 at La Bombonera while playing their second match on March 31 in La Paz.

Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton and Nicolas Gonzalez of Stuttgart are the surprise call-ups. Here’s the European based team:
