6

Argentine striker Rogelio Funes Mori has stated that he would like to play for Mexico despite having played for the Argentina national team.

Funes Mori has been playing with Monterrey in Mexico since 2015 winning three trophies, one of which being the Champions League.

He has played one match for Argentina in 2012 in a friendly game against Brazil. Already 29 years old, his twin brother has featured several times for the Argentina national team, including the 2016 Copa America final. Speaking in an interview with Agenda Fox Sports, here’s what Funes Mori had to say:

“No doubt, my son is born here, I have a lot of affection for Mexico, I like it. It would be something to be able to give back for what this country has given me. I already spoke to the club in order to start my papers to be naturalized.”

Rogelio also spoke about possibly playing for Mexico at the 2022 World Cup:

“I would be the perfect age, I would be mature with a lot of responsibility. It would not depend on me, hopefully it could happen, I’d be proud to represent Mexico. They have always had great players.”

Angel Di Maria has been left out of Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni’s squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers and the PSG man spoke about his exclusion.

Di Maria continues to perform well for his club but has not been selected for the Argentina national team. Speaking in an interview with Clos Continental, here’s what he had to say:

“I can’t find an explanation, I have no words. For me, the Argentina national team is the best. If I break my eye… At my club it’s to try to have a chance with the national team and to be able to compete.

“It’s difficult to understand that being in good form, I’m not called up. If I’m not called, it’s because they don’t want to call me, but I will keep fighting to be in the Argentina national team.”

In regards to his age:

“I’m old at 32 years old? If we start to think about replacements, we have to do it with everyone. For that, Messi shouldn’t go, Otamendi shouldn’t go and other players that are in great form. Many say that I’m old at 32 but I still run the same way and I can be at the same level as Mbappe and Neymar.

“I’ve been in good form for a year and a half and I haven’t been called. I’ll continue to show that I’m capable of being with the sky blue and white and that I wish it with all of my soul to wear it again. Every time I play a good game or become a better player, I only think about being called.

“It’s true that I’ve been there for 12 years but it’s my dream and I want to be included.”

He has adapted well to life in France and Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has included him in the squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers. Speaking in an interview with ¿Cómo te va?, here’s what he had to say:

“Everything happened so far. I’m enjoying it for my family and I can’t wait to be training with the Argentina national team. I shared a team with many players from the Pan American Games. Nehuén Pérez, Nico González, El ‘Colifa’ Mac Allister (Alexis). More than just the quality of the group but the most important thing is the human quality.”

Regarding playing alongside Lionel Messi:

“I don’t want to think of when I’ll have Messi next to me. The guys from the squad here at Lens came and congratulated me and they started talking to me about him. I was lucky enough to be part of a sparring team but now to share a group with him is going to be very different. And the same thing with the other players.”

Medina also spoke about his new club Lens:

“I like how the football is played here. It’s very intense, back and forth. The group supported me from the first day. Some of the guys speak Spanish and they helped me a lot with the language too.”
