Alfio BASILE, the only person to ever coach both Diego MARADONA and Lionel MESSI, gave his thoughts on the Argentina national team.

The former Argentina coach was on TNT Sports where he discussed Argentina, Lionel MESSI and Diego MARADONA. Here’s what he had to say:

“The other day, it wasn’t a football match. It was a rugby match. It was impossible to play in Tangiers. The match was a disaster. You can’t reach any conclusion out of it.

“In the national team, there’s no time to work.”

In regards to Diego MARADONA and Lionel MESSI, here were his thoughts:

“MARADONA has a tremendous personality and MESSI is an introvert.

“MESSI never screams at a team mate. He’s a crack. He doesn’t do the same (with Argentina) as he does when in Barcelona because his team mates aren’t the same one’s that train with him every day. Barcelona is a world class national team.”

“I think that it is over, thinking things through in depth, my time is up. I want to enjoy my family, and my time. To the joy of many, and maybe not so much for others, my time is up.

“You can now stop worrying about whether I am there or not.”

In regards to the finals lost, here’s what he had to say:

“We have been called failures for making three straight finals and not winning them, one of those a World Cup.

“For me failing is something else, but now let them take care of the new players, a lot of people enjoy criticising more than supporting.”

Paulo DYBALA talks about Argentina victory: “The team won and gave it their all”

Paulo DYBALA spoke about his team’s 1-0 victory while also discussing the weather.

Anyone who watched the match will have seen the it wasn’t the best of weathers as the wind played a big factor. Speaking after the win, here’s what DYBALA had to say:

“The weather didn’t help anything because the wind would constantly change. First, we would have it against us and after that in our favor. In the second half, it was always against us and it made it easier for them because they started coming in with long balls. It wasn’t easy to play, the pitch was very dry as well.

“One doesn’t like to make excuses but they are things that play against you. You have to remember that the team won and gave it their all.”

Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI talks team, Copa America following win

Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI spoke to the press following his team’s 1-0 win.

The coach stated that he has 70% of the Copa America list completed and gave his impressions on the victory. Here’s what he had to say:

“From a play point of view, logically, I can’t say much. But in terms of the attitude and the desire, they were incredible. Comparing this match with the one from the other day, we are happy not just because of the result but because we were superior in our play, that is important.”

When asked if the formation we saw today would be the one used at the Copa America:

“Yes, what do I know? You guys are so focused on the formation. We don’t believe that it’s the most important thing.”

SCALONI also spoke about ZARACHO who was a substitute:

“ZARACHO played 15 minutes and they were 15 incredible minutes. He connected with the attack and you wouldn’t be able to tell it was his debut. It’s the best thing that could happen to a coach.

“I believe I have 70% of the list completed, today for example I could put ZARACHO.”

Angel CORREA goal wins it as Argentina get 1-0 victory against Morocco

Angel CORREA came on as a substitute and scored for Argentina in their 1-0 win against Morocco.

After a nearly disastrous 3-1 loss against Venezuela, Lionel SCALONI’s team got a scrappy 1-0 in less than stellar conditions. The first half could have been thrown into a UFC event as there were 26 fouls and three yellow cards.

The second half was less violent and did manage to bring a goal. Angel CORREA received the ball at the edge of the penalty area and scored to give Argentina their first win in 2019 and a boost in confidence.
