5

Nicolas GAITAN will be joining MLS club Chicago Fire.

A statement from the club’s official website stated that the Argentine has left Dalian Yifang in China after joining them in 2018 to play in the MLS. Scoring two goals and having 7 assists in 28 matches with the Chinese club, the 31 year old would play alongside German World Cup winner Bastian SCHWEINSTEIGER.

Chicago Fire play Los Angeles Galaxy on March 2 and if part of the squad, it would mean his first match would be against Guillermo BARROS SCHELOTTO’s team.

Sergio AGUERO’s second half penalty was enough as Manchester City won 1-0 against West Ham.

He can’t stop scoring. Despite rumors that he won’t be called up to the Argentina team, the Argentine scored goal number 18 of his Premier League season.

Nicolas OTAMENDI also started the match for the league champions while Pablo ZABALETA was substituted on for West Ham against his former team.

Fernando REDONDO: “Leandro PAREDES has to be the number 5 of Argentina”

32

Arguable the greatest number 5 to have ever worn the Argentina national team shirt, Fernando REDONDO has given his opinion on who should wear that number for Argentina.

A legend in his own right, REDONDO didn’t have the best of careers with his country. That isn’t to say he wasn’t a great player. Due to controversy off the pitch, Argentina never got the best out of REDONDO but the former Real Madrid captain spoke with TyC Sports and had his say as to who should wear that number 5 shirt.

“Leandro Paredes has to be the number 5 of Argentina. I believe he’s the one that meets the conditions and is the one to play in that position. He could be the player that brings defensive balance.

“With MESSI up front, he could get him in situations which would be of advantage. PAREDES has the technique and the ability to do that, like GAGO did at the time.”

In regards to the young players being brought in, REDONDO hopes it ends with success.

“Now, there’s a process of change with young players but they have experience. I’m hoping that the Argentina national team finishes this process with a long-awaited success. We have the most important thing which is raw material.”

REDONDO also spoke about Cesar Luis MENOTTI being named as the general manager of the Argentina teams.

“I think he’s a suitable person. I’m hopeful of this project and I hope it ends with success which is what we all want. With a project and a structure, MESSI will be able to stand out much more.”

Angel DI MARIA continues to score, this time twice in PSG’s 3-0 win against Dijon.

While rumors are that DI MARIA’s future with the Argentina national team remains uncertain, there’s no doubting his present with PSG. The Argentine continues to score, adding two more goals to his name this season.

A lovely left footed chip over the goalkeeper made it 1-0 just 8 minutes into the match. In minute number 28, DI MARIA added a second, this time an easier goal from inside the penalty area.

Sergio AGUERO, Mauro ICARDI expected to miss out on Argentina squad for next month

42

Sergio AGUERO and Mauro ICARDI will likely not be included in the latest Argentina squad announcement for next month.

Per a report by TyC Sports, the Inter forward will miss out on next month’s matches against Venezuela and Morocco likely because of his lack of playing time with his club. It appears as though Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI is looking at possible alternatives to ICARDI.

There are also possibilities that veteran goalkeeper Sergio ROMERO also misses out on the team selection. SCALONI would reportedly prefer Boca Juniors goalkeeper Esteban ANDRADA. Sergio AGUERO also looks like he won’t be included in the team while Angel DI MARIA’s future with Argentina remains in doubt.
