Champions League: Alejandro “Papu” Gomez and Atalanta take on Argentine’s at PSG

It’s going to be a historic Champions League clash as Alejandro “Papu” Gomez and company take on PSG in the Champions League.

For the first time in the history of the competition, the quarter finals will be played in a single match and not a two leg tie. For Atalanta, it’s Jose Luis Palomino and Alejandro “Papu” Gomez who will represent them. Meanwhile for PSG, it’s Angel Di Maria, Mauro Icardi and Leandro Paredes.

Angel Di Maria, who won the tournament with Real Madrid in 2014, is suspended for the Ligue 1 champions while Paredes and Icardi are in the match squad. Di Maria has 2 goals and 5 assists.

Mauro Icardi, who is expected to start, has 5 goals this season.

Papu Gomez has 1 goal and 2 assists this season.

Lucas Ocampos scores winner for Sevilla vs. Wolves in Europa League

Lucas Ocampos scored for Sevilla in their 1-0 win vs. Wolves in the Europa League.

It was the Argentina show for Sevilla as Ever Banega and Lucas Ocampos were two of the standout players for the Spanish club.

Wolves were awarded a penalty in the first half which was saved by the Sevilla goalkeeper. The second half looked go be going into extra time until the two Argentina players connected.

Ocampos would score off a Sevilla corner. The set piece was taken short and found Banega who crossed the ball into the area and Lucas Ocampos scored the header just minutes before full time.

Argentina defender Emanuel Mammana joins PFC Sochi from Zenit

Argentina defender Emanuel Mammana has joined Russian club PFC Sochi.

After missing a large part of last season due to injury, the 24 year old defender has joined PFC Sochi on loan. The Zenit man has joined on a season long loan deal.

Emanuel Mammana received his first cap prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup at 18 in Argentina’s 2-0 win vs. Slovenia. He left River Plate to join Lyon on one season where he then signed with Russian club Zenit in 2017.

Celta Vigo make offer for Lucas Robertone of Velez

Celta Vigo have reportedly made an offer for Velez midfielder Lucas Robertone.

Per a report, Celta’s offer is that of a loan deal with an obligation to buy. Still only 23 years of age, Robertone would be making the jump to Europe after having made his debut in 2016 for the club.

World Cup winning coach with Spain in 2010 and Euro winner in 2012, Vicente del Bosque has coached some of the best players in the world. Now former coach, del Bosque spoke with TyC Sports about Lionel Messi and his place in history. Here’s what he had to say:

“Messi is a player from the neighborhood, from the streets. He has a vision of the game, a dominance and a dribble that is not seen in today’s world. And he does it where he needs to do it, which is near or in the penalty area. He’s presently the best player in the world.”

Del Bosque also commented on the never ending Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona debate.

“Messi was a great heir to Maradona and I think he has already surpassed the master.

“Messi is the best player of all time. Maybe someone can refute it.”
