Lucas ALARIO scored the match winner for Bayer Leverkusen in their 2-1 victory against Schalke.

Former Argentina man has not had the best of beginnings to his European club career. Despite scoring 9 goals in 23 games last season in the Bundesliga, his strike against Schalke was only his second of the Bundesliga season in 13 matches.

With the score at 1-0, ALARIO received the ball near the edge of the penalty area, flicked it around the defender and scored.

Former Argentina, Chelsea, AC Milan man Hernan CRESPO named new Banfield coach

Hernan CRESPO has been named as new coach of Banfield.

As we reported a while back, the former Argentina man was being linked with the Banfield coaching job. CRESPO was presented as the new manager on Wednesday and even receiced a message from another Argentina striker, Gabriel BATISTUTA.

CRESPO’s coaching staff will include Juan BRANDA, GGustavo SATTO, Marcos Lucas CIAPPINA, Tobias KOHAN, Alejandro Gabriel KOHAN, Cesar VELAZUEZ and Juan Ignacio Ayaso PARADA.

River Plate crash out of FIFA Club World Cup against Al Ain

River Plate have crashed out of the FIFA Club World Cup following a penalty shootout defeat to Al Ain.

Still hungover from their Copa Libertadores victory against Boca Juniors in Madrid, Marcelo GALLARDO’s team flew out to the United Arab Emirates to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup. The Libertadores champions went down a goal just three minutes in but Rafael BORRE equalized for the South Americans in the 11th minute.

Shortly after, BORRE gave River the lead going into half time. In the 51st minute, Caio FERNANDES drew Al Ain level. The match went to a penalty shootout.

For the South Americans, Ignacio SCOCCO, Juan QUINTERO, Lucas PRATTO and Rafael BORRE all scored. Enzo PEREZ missed the fifth kick which eliminated River Plate from the tournament.

Former Real Madrid, Argentina, current Boca man Fernando GAGO considering retirement

Fernando GAGO is reportedly considering retirement following a series of injuries.

The former Real Madrid man is rumored to be hanging up his boots after his recent injury. GAGO, who suffered an achilles tendon injury during Boca’s Copa Libertadores final loss against River Plate, underwent surgery and the retirement rumors have been ringing since.

GAGO, still only 32, has had a number of injuries during his career and this is the third time he has torn his achilles. He was an integral part of Argentina coach Alejandro SABELLA’s Argentina team during the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Lionel MESSI wins record 5th European golden shoe award

Lionel MESSI received his 5th golden boot award on Tuesday.

For the fifth time in his illustrious career, the Argentina and FC Barcelona man was awarded the European golden boot. The award is given for the top league scorer in the European leagues.

MESSI finished with 34 goals last season, equalling his tally when he first won the award in during the 2009-2010 season.

Aside from Hector YAZALDE back in 1973-1974, MESSI remains the only Argentine to win the award.
