Gonzalo MARTINEZ sends River Plate to Copa Libertadores final after win against Gremio

Gonzalo MARTINEZ scored a dramatic penalty in injury time to send River Plate to the final of the Copa Libertadores, eliminating Gremio 2-1, 2-2 on aggregate.

It was a semi final match which had it all. Goals, drama and even VAR. River Plate started the match strongly but were unable to convert their chances. It was Gremio which took the lead in the first half through a goal by Leonardo GOMES.

The second half saw Argentina goalkeeper Franco ARMANI make a key save when 1 on 1 against Everton. That saved proved to be massive.

Rafael SANTOS BORRE pulled one back for River Plate in the 82nd minute, a header past the goalkeeper gave Marcelo GALLARDO’s team a chance to still qualify for the final. Controversy soon came afterwards when referee Andres CUNHA went to VAR to award River Plate a penalty kick and send off Marcelo GROHE of Gremio.

Up stepped Gonzalo MARTINEZ and he was able to dispatch his spot kick into the back of the net to send River Plate to the final.

This could set up an all Argentine clash as fierce rivals Boca Juniors play against Palmeiras, with Boca taking a 2-0 lead into the second leg.

No Boca Juniors or River Plate players expected in Argentina team for November

Players from the two Argentine clubs are not expected to make the Argentina team for the friendly matches in November.

Per a report by TyC Sports, Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI will likely not be calling up any players from Boca Juniors or River Plate when they play against Mexico. The reason being that SCALONI doesn’t want to call-up any players should either of the two clubs make the final of the Copa Libertadores.

In the report, it’s also mentioned that no surprises are expected when the list will be announced later this week. SCALONI’s team will play twice against Mexico, the first time on November 16 in Cordoba with the second time coming on November 21 in Mendoza.

Mauro ICARDI had two goals to his name in Inter’s 3-0 win against Lazio.

A predator like finish by ther Inter captain gave his team the 1-0 lead. ICARDI pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area and scored from close range for his fifth goal of the Serie A season.

With the score at 2-0, ICARDI received the ball in the area, sent the defender the wrong way before shooting past the goalkeeper and making it 3-0, sealing the win.

Former Argentina man Santiago SOLARI named new Real Madrid coach

Santiago SOLARI has been named the new head coach of Real Madrid.

The reining Champions League holders have fired coach Julien LOPETEGUI and have named former Real Madrid player Santiago SOLARI as the new manager. SOLARI has been in charge of Madrid’s B team since 2016 and as a player won La Liga as well as a Champions League title.

SOLARI represented Argentina 11 times but did not take part in any international tournaments.

The two biggest teams in Madrid are now coached by two former Argentina team mates in Santiago SOLARI and Diego SIMEONE.

Real Madrid linked to Argentine Exequiel PALACIOS of River Plate

Real Madrid are being linked to Exequiel PALACIOS of River Plate.

Per a report by Tyc Sports, the reigning UEFA Champions League holders are interested in signing the Argentine youngster. While River Plate are attempting to give PALACIOS a new deal, Real Madrid has emerged as a favorite in signing him.

Exequiel PALACIOS reportedly has a buy out clause of €15 million with Madrid offering €20 million. The offer would have PALACIOS sign a 5 year deal with him joining the club in June.
