Lionel Messi scored a great free kick for FC Barcelona in their 4-0 win vs. Sevilla.

It was Messi’s first of the season, the fourth goal of the game. Back from injury, Messi’s goal now means he has scored 100 goals from outside the penalty area.

Messi is also the first player to score in 16 consecutive La Liga seasons in the twenty first century.

Lucas Ocampos and Ever Banega also started the match for Sevilla.

Paulo Dybala, Lautaro Martinez and Gonzalo Higuain all scored as Juventus won 2-1 vs. Inter.

In a match which produced three goals, all three were scored by Argentine players. Paulo Dybala opened the scoring tor Juventus early in the game. A lovely left footed shot by Dybala beat the defender and the goalkeeper to give Juventus the 1-0 lead.

Lautaro Martinez would strike for Inter as they were awarded a penalty kick. Lautaro stepped up and a great finish beat the goalkeeper who guessed the right way as Inter drew level.

Gonzalo Higuain would score the winner. He would receive the ball on the edge of the penalty area and with two Inter players around him, would fire a shot which would go in and give Juventus the win.

 

 

Argentina, Tottenham defender Juan Foyth: “I’m completely recovered”

Argentina and Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth has arrived in Germany and has spoken to the media ahead of the team’s match on Friday.

One of the first Argentina players to arrive to Dortmund, Foyth is back in the squad after missing out on September’s friendly matches due to injury. Speaking to TyC Sports, here’s what he had to say:

“I’m happy to be back following my injury, I’m completely recovered. I rejoined the group two weeks ago. We all want to enjoy these friendly matches and to continue being taken into consideration. If I play as a central defender, that’s good but I can also play as a full back.”

Ajax not releasing Lisandro Martinez to Argentina U23 team

Lisandro Martinez will not be part of the Argentina U23 team for this month.

After having been announced as part of the squad by coach Fernando Batista, Ajax have announced that they will not be releasing the player for October. Instead, Batista has called-up Brian Mansilla as a replacement.

Another player had to be replaced as Lucas Vera takes the spot of the injured Jeronimo Cacciabue. The team will play Mexico during the FIFA break.

River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo linked to FC Barcelona job

River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo is being linked to manage FC Barcelona.

Lionel Messi may soon be managed by another Argentine at FC Barcelona. A report by TNT Sports states that Gallardo is in line to replace current Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde.

Despite winning consecutive league titles, there are rumors that the current coach could be on his way out. Gallardo is a two time Copa Libertadores winner with River Plate and defeated Boca Juniors 2-0 in the first leg of the semi finals.

Marcelo Gallardo has continental success in South America and a move to Barcelona would be his first coaching job in Europe.
